Meteorological Applications, Volume 27, Issue 1, January/February 2020., 2020 Monte Carlo simulations of tornado risk enable a broader assessment of risk than the historical record owing to the rarity of tornadoes and the short period of record. Previous tornado risk models have distributed tornadoes randomly or used climatology to generate realistic tornado patterns on annual time scales.
