PEG-400 as an efficient and recyclable reaction medium for the synthesis of polyhydroquinolines via Hantzsch reaction

open access: yesOrbital: The Electronic Journal of Chemistry, 2013
Polyhydroquinoline derivatives have been prepared efficiently in a one-pot synthesis via Hantzsch condensation using PEG-400 as reaction medium. The present method does not involve any hazardous organic solvents or toxic catalysts.

Treatability study on the use of by-product sulfur in Kazakhstan for the stabilization of hazardous and radioactive wastes [PDF]

open access: yes, 1997
The Republic of Kazakhstan generates significant quantities of excess sulfur from the production and refining of petroleum reserves. In addition, the country also produces hazardous, and radioactive wastes which require treatment/stabilization. In an effort to find secondary uses for the elemental sulfur, and simultaneously produce a material which ...

Dimethyl fumarate combined with cisplatin at subcytotoxic doses sensitizes cervical cancer toward ferroptosis and apoptosis through GSH restriction and p53 (re)activation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dimethyl fumarate (DMF) reduces growth of HPV‐positive cervical cancer spheroids and induces ferroptosis in cervical cancer cells via blocking SLC7A11/Glutathione (GSH) axis. Combination of subcytotoxic doses of DMF and cisplatin (CDDP) further suppresses spheroid growth and drives cell death in 2D culture models.

Classification of substances by health hazard using deep neural networks and molecular electron densities

open access: yesJournal of Cheminformatics
In this paper we present a method that allows leveraging 3D electron density information to train a deep neural network pipeline to segment regions of high, medium and low electronegativity and classify substances as health hazardous or non-hazardous. We

Disinfection by-products of emerging concern in drinking water : monitoring and hazard assessment

open access: yes, 2022
The access to safe drinking-water is essential to assure health. It is a basic human right and a component of effective policy for health protection. Due to the increase levels of environmental pollution in some systems, it is crucial to assess water quality applying an integrative approach, combining environmental and human risk assessments, attending

Review of Melanoidins as By-Product from Thermal Hydrolysis of Sludge: Properties, Hazards, and Removal

open access: yesProcesses
Melanoidins, as macromolecular heterogeneous organic polymers, are produced from the Maillard reaction between amino and carbonyl groups during the thermal hydrolysis pretreatment (THP) of sludge. The brown color and recalcitrance of melanoidins pose a serious threat to wastewater treatment systems, such as invalidating UV disinfection and decreasing ...
