MAGIC: Making IMR-Based HDD Perform Like CMR-Based HDD
IEEE Transactions on Computers, 2022The past decades have witnessed the tremendous success of Conventional Magnetic Recording (CMR) based Hard Disk Drives (HDDs) in data storage. To eliminate the bottleneck of CMR based HDDs in providing higher areal density, an emerging Interlaced Magnetic Recording (IMR) is capable of achieving higher areal density with limited changes to disk makeup ...

Inputs causing a program to fail are usually large and often contain information irrelevant to the failure. It thus helps debugging to simplify program inputs. The Delta Debugging algorithm is a general technique applicable to minimizing all failure-inducing inputs for more effective debugging.

Heat assisted magnetic recording (HAMR) and slim mobile hard disk drives (HDD) are being developed parallelly to maintain cost advantage over the solid state drive (SSD). Operational shock and non-operational shock capabilities are seriously challenged for the slim HDDs due to reduced stiffness (thickness).

Car navigation systems have been evolving since the first type GPS navigation system was launched. The increasing amount of map data and related information have been stored on CD-ROM disks and DVD-ROM disks. In the latest HDD navigation system, the map data is stored on HDD, so the driver can operate navigation and the passenger in the rear seats can ...

Exploration and Exploitation for Buffer-Controlled HDD-Writes for SSD-HDD Hybrid Storage Server
ACM Transactions on Storage, 2022Hybrid storage servers combining solid-state drives (SSDs) and hard-drive disks (HDDs) provide cost-effectiveness and μs-level responsiveness for applications. However, observations from cloud storage system Pangu manifest that HDDs are often underutilized while SSDs are overused, especially under intensive writes.

Improved mechanical designs for HDD
Digest of the Asia-Pacific Magnetic Recording Conference, 2003This paper relates to the improvement of mechanical design, in particularly of suspension, for hard disk drives (HDD). The performance of suspension, in term of resonant frequency, stiffness and shock resistance, has been improved in tandem with increasing data density over the past decades.

Overlaid HDD System Using Relays
2008 10th International Conference on Advanced Communication Technology, 2008HDD is a duplexing scheme that combines TDD and FDD, taking the advantages of both systems. In this paper a novel overlaid HDD system concept is proposed. The proposed overlaid HDD system uses both TDD and FDD in both regions via two paired frequency bands.
