Induction with anti-thymocyte globulin in heart transplantation is associated with better long-term survival compared with basiliximab [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
The use of induction therapy may reduce the risk of acute rejection after heart transplantation. This study assessed the association between basiliximab (BAS) vs anti-thymocyte globulin (ATG) induction and long-term survival after heart ...

An early nationwide analysis on the continuous distribution of lung-involved multiorgan transplantationCentral MessagePerspective

open access: yesJTCVS Open
Background: The impact of continuous distribution on allocation of multiorgan transplantation (MOT) involving lungs remains unexplored. Here we characterize how continuous distribution has affected lung-involved MOT. Methods: We conducted a retrospective

Indications for Lung Transplantation and Patient Selection

open access: yesJournal of Chest Surgery, 2022
Globally, thousands of patients undergo lung transplantation owing to end-stage lung disease each year. As lung transplantation evolves, recommendations and indications are constantly being updated. In 2021, the International Society for Heart and Lung

Synchronization‐Dissipation in the Cardiorespiratory System

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
By modeling central nervous coupling and viscoelastic interactions in the cardiorespiratory system we show that synchronization produces a 10% gain in cardiac efficiency in humans. It is surmised that respiratory sinus arrhythmia improves cardiac pumping efficiency by reducing dynamic stress and power dissipation in the pulmonary vasculature.

Heart or heart-lung transplantation for patients with congenital heart disease in England [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
BACKGROUND: Increased longevity in patients with congenital heart disease (CHD) is associated with late complications, mainly heart failure, which may not be amenable to redo surgery and become refractory to medical therapy and so, trigger referral for ...

Engineered Carbon Dots from a Traditional Herb Pair Orchestrate Concurrent Antioxidant and AP‐1‐Mediated Inflammation to Attenuate Renal Ischemia‐Reperfusion Injury

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study integrates two complementary traditional Chinese medicine components as precursors to synthesize bioactive AM‐AS@CDs. Compared with single‐component CDs, these dual‐component CDs exhibit enhanced antioxidant capacity and superior renoprotective effects.

Xenogeneic Mitochondrial Transplantation Improves Selected Age‐Associated Phenotypes in Mice

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Yak‐derived xenogeneic mitochondrial transplantation improves selected age‐associated phenotypes in mice, enhances mitochondrial functional readouts, and engages host mitochondrial quality‐control pathways. Broad tissue biodistribution, increased ATP production and mtDNA copy number, reduced ROS levels and dysfunctional mitochondria, improved motility ...

Tricuspid regurgitation influences outcome after heart transplantation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
We investigated the correlation between tricuspid regurgitation (TR) and late survival, and its relation to bicaval (BC) and biatrial (BA) technique, after heart transplantation (HTx)
