Modifiable lifestyle factors and heart failure: A Mendelian randomization study
Background: Lifestyle factors may be important targets in the prevention of heart failure. The current knowledge on the relationship between lifestyle factors and heart failure originates mostly from observational studies. The objective of this study was

Mechanical unloading reverses transverse tubule remodelling and normalizes local Ca2+-induced Ca2+ release in a rodent model of heart failure [PDF]
Aims Ca2+-induced Ca2+ release (CICR) is critical for contraction in cardiomyocytes. The transverse (t)-tubule system guarantees the proximity of the triggers for Ca2+ release [L-type Ca2+ channel, dihydropyridine receptors (DHPRs)] and the sarcoplasmic ...

The dFoCC pipeline starts with observed DED and resting‐state coordinates, which are then used to generate a library of triggered states. Correlation analysis of the calculated DED features of each candidate vs observed DED permits quantitative evaluation of candidate structural quality.

Despite major improvements in the treatment of virtually all cardiac disorders, heart failure (HF) is an exception, in that its prevalence is rising, and only small prolongations in survival are occurring. An increasing fraction, especially older women with diabetes, obesity, and atrial fibrillation exhibit HF with preserved systolic function.

In a murine model of myocardial ischemia and reperfusion (MI/R), the CD36 azapeptide ligand MPE‐298 reduces cardiac injury and transiently lowers left ventricular long‐chain fatty acids (LCFAs) accumulation 3 h after reperfusion, accompanied by a decrease of oxidative stress and inflammation‐associated genes' expression in the heart and adipose tissue.

Heart failure – or a failure of imagination? [PDF]
Over ten years ago, Richard Lehman wrote an editorial in the BMJ proposing that we should abandon the term heart failure.1 Instead, he suggested, ‘it might be kinder, and more accurate, to start calling it cardiac impairment.’ As Lehman argued, the term heart failure covers a confusingly wide spectrum of illness ranging from asymptomatic systolic ...

The crystal structure of Borrelia burgdorferi nicotinamidase (PncA/BBE22) reveals the correct full‐length protein initiated from a non‐canonical AUU start codon. The structure validates previous biochemical findings and resolves a long‐standing annotation error, demonstrating that the truncated database sequence is structurally incompatible with the ...

ABSTRACT As global populations age, cancer is increasingly becoming a leading cause of morbidity and mortality among older adults, particularly in low‐ and middle‐income countries (LMICs). Despite accounting for the majority of new cancer cases and deaths, older individuals remain underrepresented in cancer research, clinical guidelines, and health ...

Duration of heart failure and the risk of atrial fibrillation: different mechanisms at different times? [PDF]
Chronic heart failure increases the risk of atrial fibrillation (AF), with the prevalence of AF paralleling the severity of heart failure.1 Factors that underlie this increased susceptibility to AF may include electrical, structural, and neurohumoral ...
