Eddy heat fluxes from direct current measurements of the Antarctic Polar Front in Shag Rocks Passage [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Determining meridional heat flux in the Southern Ocean is critical to the accurate understanding and model simulation of the global ocean. Mesoscale eddies provide a significant but poorly-defined contribution to this transport.

Mapping Heat Flux

open access: yesJournal of Atmospheric and Oceanic Technology, 1999
Abstract An infrared camera technique designed for remote sensing of air–water heat flux has been developed. The technique uses the differential absorption of water between 3.817 and 4.514 microns. This difference causes each channel’s radiance to originate over a different range of depths inside the air–water interface temperature gradient. Since this

Peripheral blood proteome biomarkers distinguish immunosuppressive features of cancer progression

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Immune status significantly influences cancer progression. This study used plasma proteomics to analyze benign 67NR and malignant 4T1 breast tumor models at early and late tumor stages. Immune‐related proteins–osteopontin (Spp1), lactotransferrin (Ltf), calreticulin (Calr) and peroxiredoxin 2 (Prdx2)–were associated with systemic myeloid‐derived ...

Frequency response limitation of heat flux meters [PDF]

open access: yesBuilding and Environment, 2017, 114, pp.233-245
Heat flux meters are used for measuring the heat flux densities going through walls, usually at quasi-steady state. The limitations of heat flux meters under dynamic conditions are well documented in the literature; nonetheless there is a theoretical limitation which is mostly not considered and should be also taken into account. Since heat transfer is

Targeting PRAME directly or via EZH2 inhibition overcomes retinoid resistance and represents a novel therapy for keratinocyte carcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The study evaluated the function and therapeutic implications of PRAME in basal cell carcinoma (BCC) and squamous cell carcinoma (SCC). The findings demonstrate that PRAME impairs keratinocyte differentiation pathways. Furthermore, PRAME impairs anticancer response to retinoid compounds in BCC and SCC cells.

TOMM20 as a driver of cancer aggressiveness via oxidative phosphorylation, maintenance of a reduced state, and resistance to apoptosis

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
TOMM20 increases cancer aggressiveness by maintaining a reduced state with increased NADH and NADPH levels, oxidative phosphorylation (OXPHOS), and apoptosis resistance while reducing reactive oxygen species (ROS) levels. Conversely, CRISPR‐Cas9 knockdown of TOMM20 alters these cancer‐aggressive traits.

Splitting schemes for hyperbolic heat conduction equation [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2010
Rapid processes of heat transfer are not described by the standard heat conduction equation. To take into account a finite velocity of heat transfer, we use the hyperbolic model of heat conduction, which is connected with the relaxation of heat fluxes. In this case, the mathematical model is based on a hyperbolic equation of second order or a system of

Strange Heat Flux in (An)Harmonic Networks [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
We study the heat transport in systems of coupled oscillators driven out of equilibrium by Gaussian heat baths. We illustrate with a few examples that such systems can exhibit ``strange'' transport phenomena. In particular, {\em circulation} of heat flux may appear in the steady state of a system of three oscillators only.

An assessment of the surface turbulent heat fluxes from the NCEP reanalysis over western boundary currents [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
With the completion of the NCEP-NCAR and ECMWF reanalyses there are now global representations of air-sea surface heat fluxes with sufficient spatial and temporal resolution to be useful in characterizing the air-sea interaction associated with ...
