Breeding for improved heat tolerance in dairy cattle: Methods, challenges, and progress*

open access: yesJDS Communications
Heat tolerance in dairy cattle has likely deteriorated over time due to unfavorable genetic correlations between milk production level and heat tolerance, with stronger deterioration in later parities.

Epigenetic silencing of the liver‐specific lncRNA LUNAR promotes liver cancer progression via NOTCH activation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
LUNAR is a liver‐specific long noncoding RNA (lncRNA) that is highly expressed in normal liver but becomes epigenetically silenced in hepatocellular carcinoma through promoter hypermethylation. Loss of LUNAR is associated with NOTCH activation, epithelial–mesenchymal transition, and metastasis, whereas restoring LUNAR restrains metastatic progression ...

A histone deacetylase confers plant tolerance to heat stress by controlling protein lysine deacetylation and stress granule formation in rice

open access: yesCell Reports
Summary: Understanding molecular mechanisms of plant cellular response to heat stress will help to improve crop tolerance and yield in the global warming era.

Interferon beta drives therapy resistance in a patient‐derived model of high‐grade serous ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Interferon type 1 (IFN‐1) production and signaling is associated with the acquisition of therapy resistance, following chronic DNA damage, via Interferon‐related DNA damage resistance signature (IRDS) gene expression. An alternative, DNA damage‐independent role of sustained IFN‐1 mediated resistance was identified and characterized by the emergence of ...

Heat stress responses in a large set of winter wheat cultivars (Triticum aestivum L.) depend on the timing and duration of stress.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2019
The adverse effects of heat on plant yield strongly depend on its duration and the phenological stage of the crops when the heat occurs. To clarify the effects of these two aspects of heat stress, systematic research was conducted under controlled ...

Male Parent Plays More Important Role in Heat Tolerance in Three-Line Hybrid Rice

open access: yesRice Science, 2015
Ten F1 combinations with their male and female parents were employed to evaluate their heat tolerance during the flowering and early grain filling stages. The rice plants were subjected to heat stress (39 °C–43 °C) for 1–15 d during flowering.

CEACAM1 participation in breast cancer progression

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
In invasive breast cancer (BC), CEACAM1 shifts from an apical to a uniform membranous/cytoplasmic pattern, or is lost, as tumors dedifferentiate, inversely tracking the Ki‐67 proliferative index. In MCF‐7 cells, only CEACAM1‐4L suppresses proliferation, repressing cell cycle and growth factor genes.

PANoptosis in the pathogenesis of myelodysplastic syndromes

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
PANoptosis, a combination of three types of programmed cell death, is mediated by a large protein complex called a PANoptosome. In healthy bone marrow hematopoietic cells, PANoptosis is restricted by inhibitory signaling. In MDS, bone marrow cells become sensitive to the PANoptotic stimuli due to the aberrant inactivation of inhibitory signaling or ...

Transcriptional Insights into Soybean Genotypes Under Prolonged Heat Stress: Identification of Key Genes and Soil Influences for Enhanced Tolerance

open access: yesPlant Stress
Heat stress is increasingly a problem in global agriculture production, both in occurrences and durations. Understanding the molecular mechanisms of soybean heat stress response is essential for breeding heat tolerant soybeans.
