Heat stress in Greece

International Journal of Biometeorology, 1997
For 12 selected synoptic stations of the Greek Weather Service, the daily 12 UTC values of the thermal index Predicted Mean Vote (PMV) were calculated for the years 1980 to 1989. The locally varied occurrence of diverse thermal sensation and particularly of strong heat stress were analysed in relation to the human-biometeorological significance.

The Automobile and Heat Stress

Pediatrics, 1976
This study suggests that the thermal burden of poorly ventilated parked automobiles can be considerable, particularly when the automobiles are exposed to direct sunlight. Leaving the windows open two inches does not appear to be protective. The practice of exposing infants and toddlers to such thermal risk appears to be common and the ...

Heat stress and acclimation

Ergonomics, 1994
Heat stress reduces the capability for sustained exercise. On the other hand, with repeated exposures to hot environments, exhaustion is delayed. This paper examines the hypothesis that high core temperature might be the ultimate cause of the fatigue and inability to continue to exercise in hot dry environmental conditions.

Estimation of heat stress in Tanzania by using ISO heat stress indices

Applied Ergonomics, 1992
The aim of this study was to evaluate the usefulness of the ISO heat stress standards in estimating the heat stress and strain in workplaces in Tanzania. Another aim was to select and to develop simplified methods for measuring physiological parameters in developing countries. The methods were tested in four hot factories and at a construction site. It

Exertional Heat Stress Disease

Acta Clinica Belgica, 1983
SummaryDuring sporting events that took place under weather conditions unusual for our country, the authors observed 5 cases of exertional heat exhaustion and 4 cases of exertional heat stroke, one of which was fatal. The clinical pictures and the main biological values are summarized.

Adaptation to heat stress

1969 IEEE Symposium on Adaptive Processes (8th) Decision and Control, 1969
From the physiological and anatomical point of view, the lateral visual field of the human operator is approximately 180 . Although a number of visual functions including visual acuity and the ability to detect light decrease in the peripheral regions, a normal observer generally makes discriminations out to 80 on either side of the midline and beyond.
