Effects of N-Acetyl-L-Cysteine on Serum Indices and Hypothalamic AMPK-Related Gene Expression Under Chronic Heat Stress

open access: yesFrontiers in Veterinary Science, 2022
This study aims to investigate the effect of heat stress on the physiological metabolism of young laying hens and whether N-acetyl-l-cysteine (NAC) can effectively alleviate heat stress.

Heat stress disorders and headache: a case of new daily persistent headache secondary to heat stroke

open access: yesJournal of Neurology, Neurosurgery & Psychiatry, 2008
Headache is considered as a common symptom of heat stress disorders (HSD), but no forms of secondary headache from heat exposure are reported in the International Classification of Headache Disorders-2 Edition (ICHD-II). Heat-stroke (HS) is the HSD most severe condition, it may be divided into two forms: classic (due to a long period environmental heat

Heat stress affects the milk yield, milk composition, serum oxidative status, and metabolites of Holstein cows during mid-lactation

open access: yesCzech Journal of Animal Science, 2023
Seasonal heat stress and metabolic disorders during mid-lactation are the main factors limiting production in Holstein cows, and several proteins and molecules involved in metabolic pathways are altered in response to stress.

Volatile profiling of hot water dipped apples [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Hot water dipping (HWD) has been proven successful to reduce storage rot in apples. However, excessive heat during dipping easily induces heat stress and physiological disorders which first show up after several weeks in cold storage.

Maternal caregivers have confluence of altered cortisol, high reward-driven eating, and worse metabolic health. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Animal models have shown that chronic stress increases cortisol, which contributes to overeating of highly palatable food, increased abdominal fat and lower cortisol reactivity. Few studies in humans have simultaneously examined these trajectories.

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.
