Heavy-Ion Linear Accelerator [PDF]

open access: yesReview of Scientific Instruments, 1961
Two linear accelerators have been built for the acceleration of ions in the mass region from helium to argon. The linear accelerators consist of two 70-Mc cavity resonators of the Alvarez design. Ions with a charge to mass ratio e/m≥0.15 times the e/m of a proton are injected into the first cavity of the linear accelerator with a Cockcroft-Walton ...

Particle beam radiation therapy for sinonasal malignancies: Single institutional experience at the Shanghai Proton and Heavy Ion Center

open access: yesCancer Medicine, 2020
Background Sinonasal malignancies (SNM) include malignant neoplasms of various histologies that originate from the paranasal sinuses or nasal cavity. This study reported the safety and efficacy of particle‐beam radiation therapy (PBRT) for the treatment ...

Conversion and validation of rectal constraints for prostate carcinoma receiving hypofractionated carbon-ion radiotherapy with a local effect model

open access: yesRadiation Oncology, 2021
Background The study objective was to establish the local effect model (LEM) rectum constraints for 12-, 8-, and 4-fraction carbon-ion radiotherapy (CIRT) in patients with localized prostate carcinoma (PCA) using microdosimetric kinetic model (MKM ...

Revisiting Stability Criteria in Ball‐Milled High‐Entropy Alloys: Do Hume–Rothery and Thermodynamic Rules Equally Apply?

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, Volume 27, Issue 6, March 2025.
The stability criteria affecting the formation of high‐entropy alloys, particularly focusing in supersaturated solid solutions produced by mechanical alloying, are analyzed. Criteria based on Hume–Rothery rules are distinguished from those derived from thermodynamic relations. The formers are generally applicable to mechanically alloyed samples.

Heavy-Ion Dosimetry

open access: yes, 1980
A comprehensive and accurate definition of the physical characteristics of a radiation field is a necessary, but not sufficient, condition for understanding (and predicting) the probability of observing a biological effect. Part of the difficulty of doing this stems from the fact that very often the biological final state accessible to observation is ...

Time‐Dependent Oxidation and Scale Evolution of a Wrought Co/Ni‐Based Superalloy

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study shows how a new wrought Co/Ni‐based superalloy resists oxidation at 800 ∘$^\circ$C. The oxide scale changes from rough, fast‐growing spinel to a dense, protective chromia–alumina layer. Atom probe analysis reveals tiny refractory‐rich bubbles at the interface that mark the transition to long‐term, diffusion‐controlled protection ...

Dissipation by transfer and its influence on fusion [PDF]

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences
A new version of the CCQEL code has been developed by upgrading the method of coupling of transfer channels during fusion and backscattering processes. In particular, the number of transfer reactions included has been increased and the dependence of the ...

Current Status and Challenges in Data Collection for Aerospace Coatings Deposited by Plasma Spraying

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
An innovative approach has been integrated into the GRENAT project to optimize plasma spraying and coating performance. Raw materials are accelerated and melted in the plasma generated by torches, creating coatings. Monitoring sensors collect process data which are combined with ex situ characterization data.

The Impacts of Different Types of Radiation on the CRT and PDL1 Expression in Tumor Cells Under Normoxia and Hypoxia

open access: yesFrontiers in Oncology, 2020
IntroductionHypoxia is a hallmark of cancer that may contribute to an immunosuppressive microenvironment and promote radioresistance. High linear energy transfer (LET) radiation is considered to be able to overcome the negative effects of hypoxia ...

Designing Polymer Nanocomposites for X‐Ray Shielding: Mechanisms, Architectures, and Scalable Processing

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This review highlights advances in lightweight, lead‐free polymer nanocomposites for diagnostic X‐ray shielding. By linking filler chemistry, dispersion, architecture, and photon interaction mechanisms, it establishes structure–performance relationships guiding material design.
