Detecting Heavy Change in the Heavy Hitter distribution of network traffic

2011 7th International Wireless Communications and Mobile Computing Conference, 2011
The increasing number of network attacks causes growing problems for network operators and users. Thus, detecting anomalous traffic is of primary interest in IP networks management. In this paper we present a novel method for network anomaly detection, based on the idea of discovering Heavy Change (HC) in the distribution of the Heavy Hitters in the ...

Queue Management for the Heavy-Tailed Traffics

2010 International Conference on Broadband, Wireless Computing, Communication and Applications, 2010
The purpose of this research is to design the new queueing algorithm effectively controlling the heavy-tailed traffics based on the comparison between the performance of the passive queue algorithm and that of the active queue algorithm. We adopted the tail-drop algorithm for PQM and the Random Early Detection (RED) for AQM, and conducted the ...

Multi-channel queues in heavy traffic

Journal of Applied Probability, 1973
In this paper, convergence theorems for heavy traffic queues are extended to multi-channel systems under general assumptions. Whitt (1968), and Iglehart and Whitt (1970) have proved weak convergence of the queue length process and the wait process for one-channel queues.
