Radial Symmetry on 3D Shells in the Landau-de Gennes Theory [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2014
We study the stability of the radial-hedgehog solution on a three-dimensional (3D) spherical shell with radial boundary conditions, within the Landau-de Gennes theory for nematic liquid crystals. We show that the radial-hedgehog solution has no zeroes for a sufficiently narrow shell, for all temperatures below the nematic supercooling temperature.

Mechanisms of enhancer‐driven oncogene activation

open access: yesInternational Journal of Cancer, EarlyView.
Abstract An aggressive subtype of acute myeloid leukemia (AML) is caused by enhancer hijacking resulting in MECOM overexpression. Several chromosomal rearrangements can lead to this: the most common (inv(3)/t(3;3)) results in a hijacked GATA2 enhancer, and there are several atypical MECOM rearrangements involving enhancers from other hematopoietic ...

Molecular subtyping and precision therapy for esophageal cancer

open access: yesInterdisciplinary Medicine, EarlyView.
The molecular typing of esophageal cancer based on genome, transcriptome, proteome, and multi‐omics revealed various molecular features and provided potential targets for the precision therapy. Recent trials have shown that immunotherapy or molecular targeted therapy plus chemoradiotherapy can improve overall survival and progression‐free survival in ...

Chinese herbal medicine‐derived extracellular vesicle‐like particles: Therapeutic potential and future research approaches

open access: yesInterdisciplinary Medicine, EarlyView.
This article evaluates the therapeutic potential of extracellular vesicle‐like particles derived from Chinese herbal medicine (CHM‐EVLP) for a range of diseases. It underscores the significance of traditional Chinese medicine in the development of innovative formulations.

Embryogenesis in Myrmicine Ants Combines Features of Short Germ‐Band Development With a Progressive Mode of Segmentation

open access: yesJournal of Experimental Zoology Part B: Molecular and Developmental Evolution, EarlyView.
Different insect species exhibit remarkable diversity in the developmental trajectories from fertilized eggs to hatching larvae. For three myrmicine ant species, we observe a novel combination of a developmental features: small embryonic primordia, a mode of embryogenesis termed short/intermediate germ‐band development, and progressive establishment of

Oral Administration of Trichosanthes Kirilowii Fruit Extract Ameliorates Airway Inflammation and Suppresses Th2 Cell Activities in Ovalbumin‐Sensitized Mice

open access: yesThe Kaohsiung Journal of Medical Sciences, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Trichosanthes kirilowii is a plant used in traditional Chinese medicine. Its fruits, seeds, and roots can all be used medicinally. The fruit of T. kirilowii has a moistening effect on the lung for arresting cough. However, there is no scientific research to prove that the fruit of T. kirilowii can improve asthma. Herein, we evaluated whether T.

Hedgehog Acyltransferase Promotes Uptake of Palmitoyl-CoA across the Endoplasmic Reticulum Membrane

open access: yesCell Reports, 2019
Summary: Attachment of palmitate to the N terminus of Sonic hedgehog (Shh) is essential for Shh signaling. Shh palmitoylation is catalyzed on the luminal side of the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) by Hedgehog acyltransferase (Hhat), an ER-resident enzyme ...

The middle hedgehog of a planar convex body [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2016
A convexity point of a convex body is a point with the property that the union of the body and its reflection in the point is convex. It is proved that in the plane a typical convex body (in the sense of Baire category) has infinitely many convexity points.
