Beyond synapses: cytoplasmic connections in brain function and evolution

open access: yesBiological Reviews, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Following Ramón y Cajal's groundbreaking contributions to the identification of synapses, research in neuroscience predominantly focused on their pivotal role in neural communication (the neuron doctrine), overlooking an intriguing possibility suggested by Golgi of non‐synaptic interactions among neural cells.

Real‐World Data Analysis of Genomic Alterations Detected by a Dual DNA–RNA Comprehensive Genomic Profiling Test

open access: yesCancer Science, EarlyView.
This study analyzed 1356 cases using GenMineTOP, Japan's first dual DNA–RNA CGP test, and identified oncogenic alterations in 91.5% of cases. The RNA panel detected 105 fusion events, including 11 NTRK fusions. Furthermore, the analysis clarified the independent effects of genomic abnormalities and cancer type on RNA expression, providing valuable ...

Diversity of U1 Small Nuclear RNAs and Diagnostic Methods for Their Mutations

open access: yesCancer Science, EarlyView.
Complex interindividual U1 snRNA diversity was unveiled. Mutations in such complex loci were precisely detected with a pangenome graph reference, which enhances the possibility of the human pangenome reference in cancer genomics. ABSTRACT U1 small nuclear RNA (snRNA) mutations are recurrent non‐coding alterations found in various malignancies, yet ...
