A Predictive Model for Helical End Milling Forces
Manufacturing Engineering, 2000Abstract A predictive model for helical end milling forces is developed using a predictive machining theory, which predicts cutting forces from input data of workpiece material properties, tool geometry and cutting conditions. In the model, each tooth of a helical end milling cutter is discretizised into a number of slices along the ...

Hole Quality Analysis in Helical Milling of CFRP
Applied Mechanics and Materials, 2014Carbon fiber reinforced plastics (CFRP) are highly promising materials for the applications in the aerospace industries, but they are typical difficult-to-cut material. In order to improve the quality, helical milling technology was developed. In this study, helical milling experiments were conducted in the machining center about CFRP materials.

Analysis of Cutting Forces in Helical Milling Process
Advanced Materials Research, 2011Helical milling is used to generate holes, in which a tool attached to the rotating spindle traverses a helical trajectory, and the diameter of holes will be larger than that of the tool. Based on the principle of helical milling, this paper establishes analytical model of cutting forces.

SURFACE PROPERTIES OF THE MACHINED WORKPIECE FOR HELICAL MILLS
Machining Science and Technology, 2009Stability and surface errors are investigated numerically for milling operations with a helical tool. A detailed two degree of freedom mechanical model is derived that includes both surface regeneration and the helical teeth of the tool. The governing delay-differential equation is analyzed by the semi-discretization method.

Profile Design of the Helical Groove Milling Tool
Advanced Materials Research, 2013In the process of milling special helicoid , there is a cusp point between its profile curve and linear esicoaginal junction . Ordinary milling cutter can't processing .If milling tool profiles are calculated and designed by smooth connection, the findings of milling tool profiles will appear profiles jagged or profiles detached phenomena.

Geometric Modeling of Cutter/Workpiece Engagements for Helical Milling With Flat End Mills
Volume 2: 27th Computers and Information in Engineering Conference, Parts A and B, 2007Helical milling is a 3-axis machining operation where a cutting tool is feed along a helix. This operation is used in ramp-in and ramp-out moves when the cutting tool first engages the workpiece, for contouring and for hole machining. It is increasingly finding application as a means for roughing large amounts of material during high speed machining ...

Generalized Modeling of Milling Mechanics and Dynamics: Part I — Helical End Mills
Manufacturing Science and Engineering, 1999Abstract Variety of helical end mill geometry is used in industry. Helical cylindrical, helical ball, taper helical ball, bull nosed and special purpose end mills are widely used in aerospace, automotive and die machining industry. While the geometry of each cutter may be different, the mechanics and dynamics of the milling process at ...

Surface location error for helical mills
2006Stability and surface location error are investigated numerically for milling operations with a helical tool. A detailed mechanical model is derived that includes both surface regeneration and the helical teeth of the tool. The governing delay-differential equation is analyzed by a modified version of the semi-discretization method.
