Performance of Helical Piles with Grouted Shafts

New Technological and Design Developments in Deep Foundations, 2000
A new foundation system employing in-situ grouting of helical screw piles has recently been developed. As the anchor is installed into the soil, a column of grout is "pulled down" around the anchor shaft providing an in-situ grouted shaft. This foundation system has been successfully employed at several sites with very soft soils overlying a more ...

Lateral Performance of Large-Capacity Helical Piles

IFCEE 2015, 2015
The lateral performance of large-capacity helical piles is of significant interest because they can offer an efficient alternative to conventional piling systems in many applications. This paper presents the results of two field lateral load tests conducted on 6.0 m and 9.0 m large-capacity helical piles installed in cohesive soil.

Helical Anchor Piles Under Lateral Loading

1984
Anchors are used in civil engineering practice to provide resistance against uplift and overturning forces for structures such as transmission line towers, aircraft mooring, pipelines, offshore structures, mobile homes, and so forth. Although there are a wide variety of anchor types available, helical screw anchors, consisting of a steel shaft to which

Osterberg Cell Load Testing on Helical Piles

Geo-Frontiers 2011, 2011
Helical piles are structural, deep foundation elements used as a means to transfer the applied axial and horizontal loads, and overturning moments from the superstructure to the soil substructure, within a specified criterion. The design process is complex and incorporates various degrees of uncertainties.

Performance-Based Design Method for Multiple Helices of Helical Pile in Cohesionless Soil

Transportation Research Record: Journal of the Transportation Research Board, 2022
Multiple helices are being used frequently in helical pile applications nowadays. This paper presents multiple helices on simplified field design charts for small diameter helical piles that relate service compressive load and soil parameters as a group with the pile parameters.

Cyclic load behavior of helical pile-to-pile cap connections subjected to uplift loads

Engineering Structures, 2021
Abstract Although significant research has been conducted on helical piles, there is a lack of research and official design guidelines on how to create resilient helical pile-to-pile cap connections, especially in tall and light structures where tensile uplift loads may govern the foundation design.

Lateral Capacity of Helical Piles in Clays

Journal of Geotechnical Engineering, 1996
In this paper, the behavior of helical piles under lateral loads in clayey soils is examined through an experimental investigation on model piles. Tests were conducted on rigid helical piles with different numbers of plates. Model anchors were made of 13.8 mm diameter mild steel shafts to which mild steel plates of 33 mm diameter were welded.

Load Test Results — Large Diameter Helical Pipe Piles

Contemporary Topics in Deep Foundations, 2009
This paper will review tests performed on large diameter (219 mm (8.625 in)) helical pipe piles with varying helical configurations (406 mm (16 in) to 762 mm (30 in)) at different locations. Included are descriptions of test pile, description of test procedure, installation procedure, soil profile, and a comparison of test results to theoretical ...

Lateral Performance of Helical Pile in Cohesionless Soil

2021
Helical pile is one of the deep foundation system used to support the axial compression, axial tension, and lateral loading. Helical piles use as foundation for wind farms, transmission tower, pipelines, for underpinning, monopole, etc., as axial and lateral support.

Performance of helical piles in oil sand

Canadian Geotechnical Journal, 2009
The results of a comprehensive pile load-test program and observations from field monitoring of helical piles with either a single helix or double helixes installed in oil sand are presented in this paper. Eleven full-scale pile load tests were carried out including axial compression, uplift, and lateral load tests.
