The ageing holobiont: crosstalk between telomere dynamics, oxidative stress and the gut microbiome
ABSTRACT The gut tissue is at the frontline of early onset of ageing. It exhibits high cell turnover rates and rapid telomere shortening, which can have systemic effects on the developing or senescing organism. We conducted a literature review of studies on the crosstalk between telomere length dynamics, telomerase activity, oxidative stress, and gut ...

BackgroundIndividual helminth infections are ubiquitous in the tropics; geographical overlaps in endemicity and epidemiological reports suggest areas endemic for multiple helminthiases are also burdened with high prevalences of intestinal protozoan ...

ParaHox Genes Revisited: From Gut Patterning to Integrated Axial and Neural Organization in Rotifera
In rotifers, ParaHox genes show a dispersed genomic organization, with Xlox absent across gnathiferans. Exclusive neuronal expression of Gsx and Cdx reveals that ancestral ParaHox genes coordinated neural and epithelial development beyond gut patterning, suggesting an integrated role in early bilaterian body plan organization.

Guidelines for the purification and characterization of extracellular vesicles of parasites
Parasites are responsible for the most neglected tropical diseases, affecting over a billion people worldwide (WHO, 2015) and accounting for billions of cases a year and responsible for several millions of deaths. Research on extracellular vesicles (EVs)

For generations, Mediterranean communities have used Lamiaceae or Labiatae plants like rosemary, thyme or mint to care for their health and to enrich their food. By bringing together dispersed knowledge from across the Mediterranean region, our review revealed the continuing relevance of Lamiaceae while also compiling past uses that may hold future ...

Autonomous Non Antioxidant Roles for Fasciola hepatica Secreted Thioredoxin-1 and Peroxiredoxin-1
Trematode parasites of the genus Fasciola are the cause of liver fluke disease (fasciolosis) in humans and their livestock. Infection of the host involves invasion through the intestinal wall followed by migration in the liver that results in extensive ...

Advancing pharmacometrics in Africa—Transition from capacity development toward job creation
Abstract Trained pharmacometricians remain scarce in Africa due to limited training opportunities, lack of a pharmaceutical product development ecosystem, and emigration to high‐income countries. The Applied Pharmacometrics Training (APT) fellowship program was established to address these gaps and specifically foster job creation for talent retention.
