[Hematologic neoplasms and pregnancy].

open access: yesMedicina, 1995
Hematologic neoplasms diagnosed during pregnancy, present significant difficulties in patient management. Besides the strictly medical facts, moral, ethical and religious issues should be strongly considered. For the optimal management of individual situations an integrated multidisciplinary approach is mandatory.

Efficacy and Safety Analysis of Roxarestat in Regulating Renal Anemia in Patients on Maintenance Hemodialysis

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective To compare the efficacy and safety of roxarestat versus recombinant human erythropoietin (rhEPO) in the management of renal anemia in patients undergoing maintenance hemodialysis. Methods This was a prospective, open‐label, randomized controlled trial.

Myelodysplastic syndrome with synchronous gastric cancer: when the symptoms suggest something else

open access: yesRevista Brasileira de Hematologia e Hemoterapia, 2014
Although myelodysplastic syndromes have a clear definition in theory, the morphologic dysplasia associated with ineffective hematopoiesis may be subtle and difficult to recognize and can commonly be mimicked by systemic conditions, such as infections ...

Splanchnic vein thrombosis in myeloproliferative neoplasms: Pathophysiology and molecular mechanisms of disease [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPNs) are the most common underlying prothrombotic disorder found in patients with splanchnic vein thrombosis (SVT). Clinical risk factors for MPN-associated SVTs include younger age, female sex, concomitant hypercoagulable ...

The newfound relationship between extrachromosomal DNAs and excised signal circles

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Extrachromosomal DNAs (ecDNAs) contribute to the progression of many human cancers. In addition, circular DNA by‐products of V(D)J recombination, excised signal circles (ESCs), have roles in cancer progression but have largely been overlooked. In this Review, we explore the roles of ecDNAs and ESCs in cancer development, and highlight why these ...

Clonal Hematopoiesis and Blood-Cancer Risk Inferred from Blood DNA Sequence [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Background Cancers arise from multiple acquired mutations, which presumably occur over many years. Early stages in cancer development might be present years before cancers become clinically apparent.

PARP inhibition and pharmacological ascorbate demonstrate synergy in castration‐resistant prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Pharmacologic ascorbate (vitamin C) increases ROS, disrupts cellular metabolism, and induces DNA damage in CRPC cells. These effects sensitize tumors to PARP inhibition, producing synergistic growth suppression with olaparib in vitro and significantly delayed tumor progression in vivo. Pyruvate rescue confirms ROS‐dependent activity.

Fungal and viral oral infections in individuals with onco-hematologic neoplasms in a University Hospital

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Oral Sciences, 2017
Introduction: Individuals undergoing onco-hematologic treatment present higher risk for developing oral and/or systemic infections, due to the intense immunosuppression and compromise of the mucosal barriers during treatment. The aim of this study was to

Cancer incidence in heart transplant recipients with previous neoplasia history [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
[Abstract] Neoplasm history increases morbidity and mortality after solid organ transplantation and has disqualified patients from transplantation. Studies are needed to identify factors to be considered when deciding on the suitability of a patient with
