Hematopoiesis

Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology, 1994
Cellular turnover of the hematopoietic system is supported by a small population of cells termed hematopoietic stem cells. Stem cells are capable of self-renewal and differentiation into individual lymphomyeloid lineages. Available evidence indicates that the decision of a stem cell to self-renew or differentiate and the decision of a multipotential ...

Paratracheal Extramedullary Hematopoiesis

International Journal of Hematology, 2001
Extramedullary hematopoiesis (EMH) is a rare finding in hematology. A 73-year-old female patient with a 1-week history of severe progressive dyspnea was examined, and computed tomography (CT) showed a paratracheal mass 3 cm in size located 1 cm below the vocals cords and causing obliteration of the tracheal airway.

Transplantation hematopoiesis

Current Opinion in Hematology, 2001
Hematopoietic reconstitution after transplantation relies on a small number of hematopoietic stem cells that selectively migrate from the bloodstream to the hematopoietic microenvironment. In the first phase of engraftment, an extreme proliferative demand causes a limited stem cell fraction and its progeny to divide continuously, showing a significant ...

Hematopoiesis

2001
Abstract Hematopoiesis, or the process of blood formation, has been extensively studied at both basic and clinical levels. Human diseases such as thalassemia, immunodeficiency, and leukemia represent defects in this process. Approaches to treat these disorders have required a basic understanding of the biology of blood cells.
