The influence of the polarity of the medium on the efficiency of Type I and Type II photosensitization as carried out by hematoporphyrin and its derivative Photofrin II was studied by EPR techniques. Our results suggest that porphyrin aggregates do not participate as such in the photosensitized processes.

Lasers in Surgery and Medicine, 1983AbstractKodak projectors with #2418 red Corning filters were used as a light source to treat cutaneous and subcutaneous malignancies in five patients who previously had been given hematoporphyrin derivative (HpD). An argon dye laser system was used to treat malignancies in patients who also were given the HpD.
