Determinants of Intradialytic Phosphate Removal in Hemodiafiltration From Real-World Clinical Practice. [PDF]

open access: yesArtif Organs
We show that convective therapy in the form of hemodiafiltration does not demonstrate a measurable effect on phosphate removal in a real‐world setting. On the other hand, session duration is the most important factor in determining phosphate removal in hemodialysis patients.

Safely correct hyponatremia with continuous renal replacement therapy: A flexible, all‐purpose method based on the mixing paradigm

open access: yesPhysiological Reports, 2023
Treating chronic hyponatremia by continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT) is challenging because the gradient between a replacement fluid's [sodium] and a patient's serum sodium can be steep, risking too rapid of a correction rate with possible ...

Dextran vs. Crystalloid Priming Solution in Cardiac Surgery: A Randomized Trial on Acute Kidney Injury. [PDF]

open access: yesActa Anaesthesiol Scand
ABSTRACT Background Acute kidney injury (AKI) is a frequent complication following cardiac surgery involving cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB). This is partly attributable to crystalloid‐based priming solutions causing both hemolysis and loss of oncotic pressure with tissue edema. While colloids like albumin and starches have not shown clear benefits, pilot
