Plant Part–Specific Differences in Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera): A Comparative Evaluation of Root and Leaf Evidence for Safety and Regulation

open access: yesFood Science &Nutrition, Volume 14, Issue 10, October 2026.
This review contrasts the root and leaf of Withania somnifera (ashwagandha) across phytochemistry, clinical evidence, and regulatory context. Root preparations are dominated by withanolide A, D, and glyco‐withanolides, with multiple randomized controlled trials supporting reductions in stress, anxiety, and insomnia alongside a favorable safety profile.

Growth of White Matter Signal Aberrations and Cortical Changes in Men and Women: A 9‐Year Multiple‐Time‐Point Longitudinal MRI Study in Older Adults

open access: yesHuman Brain Mapping, Volume 47, Issue 14, October 1, 2026.
Greater growth of white matter signal aberration (WMSA) volume, the most common age‐related finding on brain MRI, is connected to increased cortical thinning, more so in men than women. In men only, the cortical regions experiencing increased thinning due to WMSA growth displayed a concomitant cortical area expansion.

Exploring Korean Counselors’ Meaning of Counseling Expertise: Focusing on Differences Between Intermediate and Advanced Counselors

open access: yesJournal of Counseling &Development, Volume 104, Issue 4, Page 633-645, October 2026.
ABSTRACT This study examined how Korean counselors conceptualize counseling expertise across developmental stages. Using text mining of 70 counselors’ written responses, analyses included word frequency, semantic network, and CONCOR clustering. Both groups shared a lexical foundation, with performance competence, continuous learning, and diverse ...

Emotion and Engagement Across the Idol Spectrum: Comparing Virtual and Human Idols

open access: yesPsychology &Marketing, Volume 43, Issue 10, Page 2661-2679, October 2026.
ABSTRACT The increasing adoption of virtual idols in entertainment platforms raises critical questions about how viewers respond to their emotional performances compared to human idols. Despite their growing presence, little is known about whether and how emotional expressivity differs across performer modalities and content formats, or how these ...

High‐Entropy Engineering Enables Highly Exposed Mn3+ Active Sites and Stable Mn–O Coordination in α‐MnO2 for Efficient Bifunctional Oxygen Electrocatalysis

open access: yesRare Metals, Volume 45, Issue 10, October 2026.
ABSTRACT Non‐noble metal oxygen electrocatalysts are essential for low‐cost rechargeable metal‐air batteries and fuel cells, determining their energy conversion efficiency. However, such electrocatalysts are limited by inadequate bifunctional activity and stability toward the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER).
