Investigating the Spillover Mechanisms of Payment Incentives on the Outcomes for Non‐Targeted Patients

open access: yesHealth Economics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Payment reforms in healthcare can have spillover effects on the care experienced by non‐targeted patients treated by the same provider. Few empirical studies have quantitatively investigated the mechanisms behind these effects. We formulate theory‐driven hypotheses to investigate the spillover mechanisms of a regional payment reform in the ...

Temporal response patterns of human gut microbiota to dietary fiber

open access: yesiMeta, EarlyView.
In this study, 19 overweight participants, with or without type 2 diabetes mellitus, underwent 14 days of normal‐diet observation followed by 14 days of dietary fiber intervention. Fecal samples and continuous glucose monitoring data were collected daily throughout the 28‐day period.

Structural design and property regulation of organic polymers for photocatalytic synthesis of H2O2

open access: yesInfoScience, EarlyView.
Photocatalytic synthesis of H2O2 offers a sustainable approach. Photocatalytic efficiency depends critically on interfacial electron transfer kinetics and spatial charge separation. Herein, we systematically analyze key factors governing photogenerated carrier dynamics and propose engineered strategies to optimize performance, thereby providing design ...

Effects of a high‐fat diet on gut microbiota and possible implications for bone health in male Wistar rats

open access: yesLipids, EarlyView.
Abstract Diet plays an important role in the composition of gut microbiota. Emerging research suggests that bone homeostasis can also be influenced by the gut microbiota. The aim of this study was to assess possible alterations in gut microbiota in an experimental obesity model induced by a high‐fat diet (HFD) and the possible effects on parameters of ...

Myonuclear alterations associated with exercise are independent of age in humans

open access: yesThe Journal of Physiology, EarlyView., 2023
Abstract figure legend Structural and mechanical properties of myonuclei in trained young and aged individuals. In skeletal muscle fibres from trained individuals, myonuclei are more spherical, have greater lamin A and are stiffer compared to untrained counterparts.

The impact of 60 days of ‐6° head down tilt bed rest on mitochondrial content, respiration and regulators of mitochondrial dynamics

open access: yesThe Journal of Physiology, EarlyView., 2023
Abstract figure legend Reductions in skeletal muscle mitochondrial respiration following 60 days of bed rest explained by a decrease in mitochondrial content, but resulting in an increase in OPA1 and Drp1 mediated mitochondrial fission. Abstract It is unclear how skeletal muscle metabolism and mitochondrial function adapt to long duration bed rest and ...

Advancements in Magnesium Applications, Biocompatible Implants to Nanoparticles in Medicine and Biomedical Innovations

open access: yesMetalMat, EarlyView.
Magnesium (Mg) and its alloys are identified as prospective materials for orthopedic and cardiovascular applications because of their bio‐corrosiveness and ability to stimulate tissue reparative processes. Although compared with traditional metals, Mg is biocompatible; however, it has various problems that stem from its biodegradation nature, for ...

Three Benefits of Using Nonlinear Compliance in Robotic Systems Performing Cyclic Tasks: Energy Efficiency, Control Robustness, and Gait Optimality

open access: yesInternational Journal of Mechanical System Dynamics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Nonlinearity in parallel compliance can be exploited to improve the performance of locomotion systems in terms of (1) energy efficiency, (2) control robustness, and (3) gait optimality; that is, attaining energy efficiency across a set of motions. Thus far, the literature has investigated and validated only the first two benefits.
