Fatty liver disease is not associated with increased mortality in the elderly: A prospective cohort study

open access: yesHepatology, EarlyView., 2022
Graphical abstract summarizing the study design, main results and key findings Abstract Background and Aims Fatty liver disease (FLD) has been associated with excess mortality. Screening for hepatic steatosis (HS) in patients with metabolic dysfunction is therefore recommended by several guidelines, despite a paucity of evidence on the clinical ...

Non-alcoholic steatohepatitis and progression of carotid atherosclerosis in patients with type 2 diabetes: a Korean cohort study

open access: yesCardiovascular Diabetology, 2020
Background There is increasing concern regarding cardiovascular risk in individuals with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. This study was conducted to evaluate whether hepatic steatosis with or without fibrosis is associated with the progression of ...

Hepatoma‐Derived Growth Factor Coordinates STAT3 Pathway and Exosome‐Mediated Intrahepatic Crosstalk to Control Hepatic Steatosis and MASLD

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Hepatic HDGF as a key mediator in coordinating hepatic steatosis and intrahepatic crosstalk in MASLD. Activation of HDGF facilitates its interaction with both STAT3 and S6K1, driving the S6K1‐dependent STAT3 phosphorylation and subsequently enhancing hepatic lipogenesis.

Metabolic dysfunction‐associated fatty liver disease and excessive alcohol consumption are both independent risk factors for mortality

open access: yesHepatology, EarlyView., 2022
Visualisation of the study desgin, main results and key findings. Abstract Background and Aims MAFLD often cooccurs with excessive alcohol consumption, while its prognostic value in this group remains unclear. We aimed to study the mortality risk of MAFLD in relation to excessive alcohol consumption and its potential interactions.

Genetic determinants of hepatic steatosis in man

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 2011
Hepatic steatosis is one of the most common liver disorders in the general population. The main cause of hepatic steatosis is nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), representing the hepatic component of the metabolic syndrome, which is characterized ...

Serum fetuin A and chemerin levels correlate with hepatic steatosis and regional adiposity in maintenance hemodialysis patients. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2012
BACKGROUND: A deficiency of fetuin A is linked to cardiovascular calcification and mortality in dialysis patients. But, high levels of fetuin A and chemerin correlate with hepatic steatosis and regional adiposity in general population.

Early Chronic Kidney Disease (G1-G3a) in Combination with Steatosis as a Predictor of Incident Ischemic Heart Disease: A Longitudinal Study in Non-Diabetic Koreans

open access: yesBiomedicines, 2021
Hepatic steatosis and chronic kidney disease (CKD) in the advanced stages are closely related to cardiovascular diseases. Despite the potential connection between early CKD (G1-G3a) and hepatic steatosis on cardiometabolic risks, few studies have ...

Intestinal Source Control of Lipid Metabolism by Enzyme‐Probiotic Encapsulated, Spatiotemporal Crosslinked, and Small Intestine‐Adhesive Hydrogel Microspheres

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A thiol‐modified alginate hydrogel microsphere‐encapsulated enzyme‐probiotic biohybrid (AKK‐COD) system has been developed to address the spatiotemporal delivery and colonization challenges of small intestine‐targeted probiotic for lipid metabolism regulation. The system exerts sequential functions of intragastric protection, small intestinal adhesion,

Essential lipid autacoids rewire mitochondrial energy efficiency in metabolic dysfunction‐associated fatty liver disease

open access: yesHepatology, EarlyView., 2022
Increased liver content of DHA‐derived small lipid autacoids (i.e resolvin D1 and maresin 1) associates with enhanced mitochondrial oxidative phosphorylation, fatty acid β‐oxidation and bioenergetic metabolic flux. These features provide hepatic protection from steatotic, pro‐inflammatory and fibrogenic insults.

Effect of hepatic fat fraction on major hepatocellular carcinoma features at magnetic resonance imaging

open access: yesThe Egyptian Journal of Radiology and Nuclear Medicine, 2023
Background Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the fifth most frequent cancer on the world. Fat accumulation within hepatocytes is known as hepatic steatosis.
