Hepatitis B Surface Antigen Seroclearance: Relationship to Hepatitis B e-Antigen Seroclearance and Hepatitis B e-Antigen-Negative Hepatitis

American Journal of Gastroenterology, 2014
The objective of this study was to determine factors associated with hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) seroclearance after hepatitis B e-antigen (HBeAg) seroclearance. This is a cohort study of HBeAg-positive patients with HBeAg seroclearance. Factors associated with subsequent HBsAg seroclearance were examined.A total of 775 patients were included ...

Hepatitis B e Antigen in the Absence of Hepatitis B Surface Antigen

Journal of Infectious Diseases, 1980
Hepatitis B e antigen (HBeAg) was detected by agar gel diffusion in the serum of four Ugandan adults (three patients with tropical splenomegaly syndrome and one healthy adult) who did not have detectable hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) by radioimmunoassay. Two of them had antibody to hepatitis B core antigen, and the other two had antibody to HBsAg.

Hepatitis B e Antigen and Infectivity of Hepatitis B Virus

Journal of Infectious Diseases, 1977
For confirmation of the difference in the infectivity of hepatitis B surface antigen (HBS Ag)-positive serum according to differences in the e antigen system, four chimpanzees were inoculated with serum positive for hepatitis B e antigen (HBe Ag), and three chimpanzees were inoculated with serum positive for antibody to HBe Ag (anti-HBe).

Hepatitis B e Antigen-Associated Membranous Nephropathy

Nephron, 1989
A case of hepatitis B virus (HBV)-associated membranous nephropathy (MN) is presented in an 18-year-old Korean male, whose renal disease had begun 9 years previously. He was positive for hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg), hepatitis B e antigen (HBeAg) and antibody to hepatitis B core antigen (anti-HBc) in the serum.

The nature of hepatitis B e antigen

Journal of Medical Virology, 1978
In recent years, considerable interest has developed in recognizing antigenic specificities additional to the surface antigen in the sera of patients infected with hepatitis B infection. The presence of the e-antigen appears to be invariably associated with ongoing virus replication.

Interferon Therapy in Hepatitis B E Antigen-Negative Chronic Hepatitis B

Hepatology, 2003
teristics, making them both less likely to develop progressive liver disease and more tolerant to IFN side effects. The proportion of the responder patients varies according to referral centers and inclusion criteria, but cannot be significant in that the efficacy of IFN treatment still is not proven.

Comparison of hepatitis B surface antigen and e antigen in predicting liver histology in hepatitis B e antigen-positive chronic hepatitis B patients

Hepatology International, 2014
The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between hepatitis B e antigen (HBeAg) and hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) levels and liver histology in HBeAg-positive patients with chronic hepatitis B virus (CHB) infection.Serum HBsAg and HBeAg levels were analyzed, and liver biopsies were obtained from 203 HBeAg-positive CHB patients ...

Occult hepatitis B virus infection with positive hepatitis B e antigen

Clinica Chimica Acta, 2015
Hepatitis B e antigen (HBeAg) is a marker to indicate active replication of hepatitis B virus (HBV). Occult HBV infection (OBI), referred to persistence of HBV DNA in serum and/or liver without detectable serum hepatitis B surface (HBsAg), usually has low HBV DNA levels.

Clearance of Hepatitis B e-Antigen in Chronic Hepatitis B Infection

Scandinavian Journal of Gastroenterology, 1982
HBeAg and anti-HBe were determined by radioimmunoassay (Abbott HBe) in serial serum samples from 22 patients who had been HBsAg-positive for more than 1 year. Seventeen patients (77%) were HBeAg-positive at onset of illness. Eight of these patients were persistently HBeAg-positive during 2.5-8.5 years' follow-up study (mean, 5.4 years).

Immunopathogenesis of hepatitis B e antigen negative chronic hepatitis B infection

Antiviral Research, 2001
Hepatitis B e antigen (HBeAg) negative chronic hepatitis B represents currently the predominant form of chronic hepatitis due to the hepatitis B virus (HBV) in several parts of the world. In this review, recent data regarding the process of HBeAg negative HBV strain selection during the course of chronic HBV infection are presented and the potential ...
