Bovine Papillomatosis Hiding a Zoonotic Infection: Epitheliotropic Viruses in Bovine Skin Lesions

open access: yesPathogens, 2020
We describe two cases of skin co-infections with epitheliotropic viruses, detected in two cattle during lumpy skin disease (LSD) surveillance in northern Italy.

Heterogeneity of viral IL-6 expression in HHV-8-associated diseases. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
In order to characterize the expression of the viral interleukin-6 (vIL-6) homologue in various human herpesvirus 8 (HHV-8)-associated diseases, in situ hybridization and immunohistochemistry were applied to formalin-fixed specimens.

A Humanized Anti‐gD Broadly Neutralizing Antibody Confers Complete Post‐Exposure Protection against Pseudorabies Virus

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Pseudorabies virus (PRV), an emerging zoonotic α‐herpesvirus, causes life‐threatening human encephalitis. We identified a broad‐spectrum neutralizing antibody 6F7 targeting PRV gD. It blocks gD‐Nectin‐1 binding and membrane fusion, inhibiting replication across all PRV variants, representing a promising candidate for anti‐PRV therapy.

Viral Infections in Burn Patients: A State-Of-The-Art Review

open access: yesViruses, 2020
Infections that are triggered by the accompanying immunosuppression in patients with burn wounds are very common regardless of age. Among burn patients, the most frequently diagnosed infections include the bacterial ones primarily caused by Pseudomonas ...

The HHV-6A Proteins U20 and U21 Target NKG2D Ligands to Escape Immune Recognition

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology, 2021
The coevolution of the human immune system and herpesviruses led to the emergence and diversification of both cellular danger molecules recognized by immune cells on the one hand and viral countermeasures that prevent the expression of these proteins on ...

A four year longitudinal sero-epidemiological study of bovine herpesvirus type-1 (BHV-1) in adult cattle in 107 unvaccinated herds in south west England [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Background: Bovine herpesvirus type-1 (BHV-1) is an important pathogen of cattle that presents with a variety of clinical signs, including the upper respiratory tract infection infectious bovine rhinotracheitis (IBR). A seroepidemiological study of BHV-

p300 Degradation by the p53‐SIAH1 Axis Relieves TBK1 Acetylation to Enhance Innate Antiviral Immunity

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study identifies p300 as the acetyltransferase that acetylates TBK1 and inhibits its phosphorylation. Activation of the p53‐SIAH1 axis by immune response downregulates p300 expression to sustain innate antiviral immunity. Conditional p300 knockout in alveolar epithelial cells in vivo promotes antiviral responses and suppresses virus replication ...

Human herpesvirus 6 [PDF]

open access: yesClinical Microbiology Reviews, 1997
Human herpesvirus 6 variant A (HHV-6A) and human herpesvirus 6 variant B (HHV-6B) are two closely related yet distinct viruses. These visuses belong to the Roseolovirus genus of the betaherpesvirus subfamily; they are most closely related to human herpesvirus 7 and then to human cytomegalovirus.

Varicella-Zoster Virus glycoprotein expression differentially induces the unfolded protein response in infected cells.

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2014
Varicella-zoster virus (VZV) is a human herpesvirus that spreads to children as varicella or chicken pox. The virus then establishes latency in the nervous system and re-emerges, typically decades later, as zoster or shingles. We have reported previously
