Nearly all cases of cryptococcosis in koalas are caused by Cryptococcus gattii species complex. A rare case of meningitis due to Cryptococcus neoformans VNI/AFLP1 (abbreviated VNI) is described in a koala with nasal colonisation by both species complexes.

Human herpesvirus 1 protein US3 induces an inhibition of mitochondrial electron transport
Previous studies have identified virus proteins that traffic to mitochondria and may affect mitochondrial function. Here, it is reported that Human herpesvirus 1 (HHV-1, herpes simplex virus 1) and influenza virus reduced mitochondrial respiration, whilst Measles virus, cytomegalovirus, coxsackievirus B4 and Feline calicivirus did not.

EHV-1 Pathogenesis: Current in vitro Models and Future Perspectives [PDF]
Primary infection and pathogenesis of equine herpesvirus type 1 (EHV-1) require an intricate interaction of virus with the mucosal epithelium, mononuclear cells and the vascular endothelium.

Nutritional secondary hyperparathyroidism is a metabolic disorder caused by an imbalance in calcium homeostasis and is typically associated with the feeding of a calcium‐deficient diet. Nutritional secondary hyperparathyroidism has been reported in domestic species, including cats and dogs, as well as captive carnivores and wildlife including lions ...

Human Pose Estimation using Motion Priors and Ensemble Models [PDF]
Human pose estimation in images and videos is one of key technologies for realizing a variety of human activity recognition tasks (e.g., human-computer interaction, gesture recognition, surveillance, and video summarization). This paper presents two types of human pose estimation methodologies; 1) 3D human pose tracking using motion priors and 2) 2D ...

The activation of KSHV lytic cycle blocks autophagy in PEL cells [PDF]
This study confirms that autophagy is activated concomitantly with KSHV lytic cycle induction, and that autophagy inhibition by BECN1 knockdown reduces viral lytic gene expression.

HSV‐1 infection alters MAPT splicing and promotes Tau pathology in neural models of Alzheimer's disease. HSV‐1 infection in brain organoids and neuronal models increase 4R‐MAPT splicing and Tau hyperphosphorylation. HSV‐1 ICP27 is both necessary and sufficient for inducing these changes highlighting the potential role of HSV‐1 in Alzheimer's disease ...

From Human-Computer Interaction to Human-Robot Social Interaction [PDF]
Human-Robot Social Interaction became one of active research fields in which researchers from different areas propose solutions and directives leading robots to improve their interactions with humans. In this paper we propose to introduce works in both human robot interaction and human computer interaction and to make a bridge between them, i.e.
