MULTIPLE CRITERIA ASSESSMENT OF HIGH-RISE TIMBER BUILDINGS

open access: yes, 2020
Although the majority of high-rise buildings are constructed from concrete and steel, there is a growing interest in the new generation of multi-storey timber buildings around the world and several ecologically sustainable structural systems have already

The newfound relationship between extrachromosomal DNAs and excised signal circles

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Extrachromosomal DNAs (ecDNAs) contribute to the progression of many human cancers. In addition, circular DNA by‐products of V(D)J recombination, excised signal circles (ESCs), have roles in cancer progression but have largely been overlooked. In this Review, we explore the roles of ecDNAs and ESCs in cancer development, and highlight why these ...

Non-linear static procedures applied to high-rise residential URM buildings [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
© 2016 Springer Science+Business Media Dordrecht In this work, the vulnerability of an unreinforced masonry building, evaluated on the one hand by using the incremental dynamic analysis, and on the other hand by using nine representative non-linear ...

THE CHANGE IN DEFORMATION CHARACTERISTICS OF CONCRETE MONOLITHIC HIGH-RISE BUILDINGS

open access: yesNauka ta progres transportu, 2009
In the article results of studies of deformation features of concrete on actuate cement for monolithic high-altitude buildings are presented. It is shown that in construction of the high-altitude monolithic buildings in a summer period of a year one ...

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

Efficient 3D Placement of a UAV Using Particle Swarm Optimization

open access: yes, 2017
Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) can be used as aerial wireless base stations when cellular networks go down. Prior studies on UAV-based wireless coverage typically consider an Air-to-Ground path loss model, which assumes that the users are outdoor and ...

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Rationale of Smart High-rise Regulations [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Through systematic analysis of the evolvement of high-rise regulations in European and American cities, this paper attempts to summarize some rationale in hope of setting a theoretical foundation for smart high-rise regulation.
