High-Speed Multiplication Systems
IEEE Transactions on Computers, 1972Large-scale scientific computers are characterized by having a high ratio of computing requirements to the input-output requirements. Thus the speed of arithmetic operations should be of prime importance in this group of digital computers. In this note a mathematical formula is derived to determine the multiplication time obtained by each of the known ...

High Speed Dexterous Manipulation with High Speed Vision
IFAC Proceedings Volumes, 2009Abstract Vision is one of most important sensors for dexterous manipulation. The sampling rate of usual vision system is 30Hz. However, it is not enough to control manipulation system in realtime. In order to solve this problem, a high-speed vision system has been developed in which the sampling rate is more than 1kHz.

High-Speed Microcontact Printing
Journal of the American Chemical Society, 2006We have demonstrated microcontact printing (muCP) of self-assembled monolayers in the millisecond regime. The contact formation and separation of the stamp and substrate was studied with high-speed video recordings. Using high ink concentrations and contact times as short as 1 ms, we printed monolayers of hexadecanethiol on Au, which served as a ...

High-speed phosphor thermometry
Review of Scientific Instruments, 2011Phosphor thermometry is a semi-invasive surface temperature measurement technique utilising the luminescence properties of doped ceramic materials. Typically, these phosphor materials are coated onto the object of interest and are excited by a short UV laser pulse.

High Speed Scintillation Autoradiography
Science, 1975Impregnation of nuclear track emulsion with liquid scintillator and exposure at -85°C allows rapid autoradiographic labeling. With tritiated thymidine of high specific activity (40 to 60 curies per millimole), exposure time can be shortened to 20 to 60 minutes, allowing complete sample processing within 4 hours.

High-speed multifunction arithmetic arrays for multiplication, division, square and square-root operations are presented in this paper. These arrays seem attractive due to their versatility and speed. A recently described quotient-bit evaluation technique that uses the carry-save method in a nonuniform division array is extended here for the restoring ...

We built a high-speed, pneumatic pressure clamp to stimulate patch-clamped membranes mechanically. The key control element is a newly designed differential valve that uses a single, nickel-plated piezoelectric bending element to control both pressure and vacuum. To minimize response time, the valve body was designed with minimum dead volume. The result

Mechanical light choppers are used in many optical systems with a great deal of success. At high PRF's, however, designers often tend to avoid their use because of stress and torque limitations. This article attempts to provide an optical engineer with sufficient information to compute the maximum stresses in a chopper wheel.

High-speed imaging is an ideal technique to accurately resolve the temporal and spatial characteristics of rapid events at either the molecular or cellular level. In this article, the digital imaging techniques used to simultaneously acquire transillumination phase-contrast images, at 240 images s(-1) (high-speed), to characterize ciliary beat ...

Parallel decimal arithmetic capability is becoming increasingly attractive with new applications of computers in a multi-programming environment. The direct production of decimal sums offers a significant improvement in addition over methods requiring decimal correction.
