Developing Micro/Nanostructured Fluidic Mixing Technology for Biomedical Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This review critically evaluates how micro/nanostructured mixing technologies are redefining biomedical research. By synergizing fundamental analysis, numerical modeling, structural design, and external field manipulation, these systems attain unprecedented control over mass transport.

Rare earth element separations by high-speed counter-current chromatography

Journal of Chromatography A, 2022
Following the initial development of High-Speed Counter-Current Chromatography (HSCCC) in the 1960s, several studies have explored its applicability in the separation of rare earth elements (REEs). More recently, however, HSCCC publications have transitioned towards the separation of natural products or pharmaceuticals, leaving the application for REEs

High-speed counter-current chromatography of apple procyanidins

Journal of Chromatography A, 2000
Apple procyanidins were separated by high-speed counter-current chromatography using a type-J multilayer coil planet centrifuge. Several two-phase solvent systems with a wide range of hydrophobicities from a non-polar hexane system to polar n-butanol systems were evaluated their performance in terms of the partition coefficient and the retention of the

Axial dispersion coefficient in high-speed counter-current chromatography

Journal of Chromatography A, 2009
Experimental measurements of axial dispersion coefficients in high-speed counter-current chromatography have been carried out in the single-phase and two-phase modes. Axial dispersion coefficients were calculated from the residence time distribution curve (or the elution profile).

Sample capacity in preparative high-speed counter-current chromatography

Journal of Chromatography A, 2007
High-speed counter-current chromatography (HSCCC) is a versatile technique in preparative separation and purification of pure compounds from complex matrices. As a preparative chromatography, there is a need to maximize the column production. Based on the plate theory of Van Deemter, the effect of the sample load on the separation was investigated in a

Improved spiral disk assembly for high-speed counter-current chromatography

Journal of Chromatography A, 2003
The spiral disk for type-J high-speed counter-current chromatography (HSCCC) has been improved by placing short segments of PTFE (tetrafluoroethylene) tubing into the channel at regular intervals. The best results were obtained with a four-channel spiral column using 600 spacers, which significantly improved stationary phase retention and partition ...

Separation of spiramycin components using high-speed counter-current chromatography

Journal of Chromatography A, 2000
High-speed counter-current chromatography was successfully applied to the separation of the main components of spiramycin. A 25-mg quantity of sample was separated using a two-phase solvent system composed of n-hexane-ethyl acetate-methanol-water (3:6:5:5), and the fractions were analyzed by high-performance liquid chromatography and fast atom ...

Preparative separation of pyrrolizidine alkaloids by high-speed counter-current chromatography

Journal of Chromatography A, 1996
We have applied a high-speed counter-current chromatography (CCC) technique to the separation and purification of pyrrolizidine alkaloids from Amsinckia tessellata, Symphytum spp., Trichodesma incanum (Boraginaceae), and Senecio douglasii var. longilobus (Asteraceae).

Separation of rare earth elements by high-speed counter-current chromatography

Journal of Chromatography A, 1991
Besides being widely used in electronic and glass industries, rare earth elements have recently been found to have important biological effects including the ability to stabilize and enhance interferon activity [J.J. Sedmak and S.E. Grossberg, J. Gen. Virol, 52 (1981) 195].
