A Study of Dielectric Breakdown Along Insulators Surrounding Conductors in Liquid Argon

open access: yes, 2016
High voltage breakdown in liquid argon is an important concern in the design of liquid argon time projection chambers, which are often used as neutrino and dark matter detectors.

Nonlocal Edge State Transport in Topological Insulators [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
We use the N-terminal scheme for studying the edge state transportin in two-dimensional topological insulators. We find the universal nonlocal response in the ballistic transport approach.

Reduction of Oxide Inclusions During the High‐Frequency Welding of Steel via a Nonthermal Ar/H2 Plasma Jet

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
High‐frequency (HF) welding of steel is limited by oxide inclusions that degrade weld quality. This study demonstrates, for the first time, the integration of a nonthermal Ar/H2 dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) plasma jet into HF welding. Local plasma treatment provides effective shielding and in‐situ oxide reduction, resulting in markedly fewer and ...

THE ELECTROSTATIC CHARACTERISTICS OF LINEAR INSULATORS FOR CONTACT NETWORKS OF RAILWAYS

open access: yesNauka ta progres transportu, 2009
On the base of numeric investigations on mathematical models of stationary electric field the basic electric performances of insulating suspensions from porcelain and polymeric insulators for contact nets of alternating and direct current are compared.

Study on pollution flashover characteristic of insulators on 500 kV AC transmission lines in high-altitude area

open access: yesThe Journal of Engineering, 2019
Pollution flashover performance of insulators is one of the key factors to be considered in the selection of external insulation for transmission lines at high-altitude areas.

Dirac-screening stabilized surface-state transport in a topological insulator [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
We report magnetotransport studies on a gated strained HgTe device. This material is a threedimensional topological insulator and exclusively shows surface state transport. Remarkably, the Landau level dispersion and the accuracy of the Hall quantization

Air‐Pressure–Actuated Vibroacoustic Metamaterial With Tunable Bandgap: Design, Modeling, and Characterization

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This article presents the design, modeling, and characterization of air‐pressure–actuated programmable vibroacoustic metamaterials (PVAMM). The study focuses on leveraging air pressure to dynamically tune resonance frequencies for effective noise attenuation.

Composition‐Tuned Enhancement of the Anomalous Nernst Effect in FeCo–Pt Thin Films on Rigid and Flexible Substrates

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Disordered (Fe50Co50)1−xPtx thin films exhibit a pronounced anomalous Nernst effect (ANE) with a strong composition dependence on both rigid and flexible substrates. The transverse thermoelectric response peaks near 22.5 at.% Pt, accompanied by enhanced αxy/σxy scaling, thermal transport, and ANE sensitivity.

Analysis of Long-Term Deterioration Characteristics of High Voltage Insulators

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2019
The deterioration of the cement that bonds the cap, pin, and porcelain shell of the porcelain insulators can be observed by three-dimensional computed tomography (3D-CT), a non-destructive test. When porcelain insulators are used for a long duration, the

Electric-field control of spin-orbit torque in a magnetically doped topological insulator

open access: yes, 2015
Electric-field manipulation of magnetic order has proved of both fundamental and technological importance in spintronic devices. So far, electric-field control of ferromagnetism, magnetization and magnetic anisotropy has been explored in various magnetic
