Field measurements on earthing systems of different soil resistivity values under high impulse conditions

Electrical Engineering, 2016
In a previously published work, performances of three practical earthing systems consists of 2, 3 and 4 rod-bed electrodes buried at the same site, thus the same soil resistivity were investigated. It was found that the degree of reduction of the earth resistance values is the highest in the poor earthing systems (2 rod electrodes).

Influence of High-Frequency High-Voltage Impulse Conditioning on Back-to-Back Capacitor Bank Switching Performance of Vacuum Interrupters

IEEE Transactions on Plasma Science, 2016
The objective of this paper is to investigate an influence of high-frequency high-voltage impulse conditioning on the back-to-back capacitor bank switching performance of vacuum interrupters (VIs). Nine identical 7.2-kV VIs were tested by 80 CO operations after the proposed conditioning. Test inrush currents were set to 0-, 2-, and 5-kA peak.

Quantification of Supersonic Impulse Flow Conditions via High-Bandwidth Wavelength Modulation Absorption Spectroscopy

AIAA Journal, 2015
A tunable diode laser-based H2O absorption diagnostic has been developed to characterize transient phenomena within the Stanford Expansion Tube Flow Facility. A measurement rate of 25 kHz was achieved to identify and investigate transient flow structures within the ∼600  μs facility test time.

Effect of Enhancement Materials When Mixed with Sand Under High Impulse Conditions

2006 IEEE 8th International Conference on Properties and applications of Dielectric Materials, 2006
To date, there is no data describing the characteristics of enhancement materials mixed with soils under impulse conditions are published. In this research, it is aimed to investigate the characteristics of enhancement materials, copper sulphate (CuSO4 ) and sodium chloride (NaCl) mixed with soils under impulse ...

Typology of reflections in the assessment of the interlayer bonding condition of the bituminous pavement by the use of an impulse high-frequency ground-penetrating radar

Nondestructive Testing and Evaluation, 2012
This paper is devoted to the description of the double reflection type as an important basic case (as well as single reflection type) and gives some introduction to the phenomenology of elongated reflections in ground-penetrating radar (GPR) diagnostics of bituminous pavement. The single reflections correspond to simple velocity contrast between layers

Effects of moisture content, impulse polarity and earth electrode's dimension on dry and wet sand under high voltage conditions

European Transactions on Electrical Power, 2007
AbstractThe study on the physics of discharges in soil and performance of earthing networks subjected to lightning currents are important in order to improve the reliability of electrical systems and to obtain better electrical models of earthing systems.

Back-to-back capacitor switching performance of vacuum interrupters after high frequency sub-microsecond voltage impulse conditioning

2013 2nd International Conference on Electric Power Equipment - Switching Technology (ICEPE-ST), 2013
The objective of this paper is to investigate back-to-back capacitor switching restrike characteristics of vacuum interrupters (VIs) after conditioning by using a series of high-frequency sub-microsecond voltage impulses. 7.2 kV VIs are conditioned by several hundreds of batches of sub-microsecond high voltage impulses (1000Hz, 0.1s). The peak value of

Speech communications effects and temporary threshold shift reduction provided by V51R and selectone-K earplugs under conditions of high intensity impulsive noise

Journal of Sound and Vibration, 1966
Abstract The pure tone and speech attenuation characteristics of V 51 R and Selectone-K earplugs have been measured in the laboratory, and their effects on speech communication have also been measured under field conditions of quiet and impulsive noise back grounds.

Study of the breakdown voltage of the air in high altitudes, applying lightning impulses (1.2/50 s) under conditions of controlled humidity and temperature

11th International Symposium on High-Voltage Engineering (ISH 99), 1999
Air as insulating material has been studied a lot. However, for altitudes greater than 2000 meters above sea level, not many projects have been accomplished. The international standard establishes correction factors for atmospheric conditions that have not yet been studied for low-pressure conditions.
