Tuning high power impulse magnetron sputtering discharge and substrate bias conditions to reduce the intrinsic stress of TiN thin films

open access: yesThin Solid Films, 2019
Ion bombardment during film growth usually induces high compressive stress in compound thin film materials, resulting in rupture and failure of coated tools used in tribological applications. Hence‚ intrinsic stress generated during film growth can drastically limit the industrial appeal of deposition technologies such as high power impulse magnetron ...

Hands‐on protocol for preparing water‐soluble fractions from agri‐food samples for NMR‐based metabolomics analysis

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This research protocol outlines a workflow for nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR)‐based metabolomics in the agri‐food sector. Using two case studies—strawberry leaves (solid matrix) and wine (liquid matrix)—it details the procedures for sample preparation, data acquisition, and processing.

FGFR Like1 drives esophageal cancer progression via EMT, PI3K/Akt, and notch signalling: insights from clinical data and next‐generation sequencing analysis

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Clinical analysis reveals significant dysregulation of FGFRL1 in esophageal cancer (EC) patients. RNAi‐coupled next‐generation sequencing (NGS) and in vitro study reveal FGFRL1‐mediated EC progression via EMT, PI3K/Akt, and Notch pathways. Functional assays confirm its role in tumor growth, migration, and invasion.

Experimental and numerical investigation of design optimization of a partial admitted supersonic turbine

open access: yesPropulsion and Power Research, 2013
To obtain a high specific work output, the large pressure ratios across the turbine are required. This can be achieved using a supersonic turbine. When the fluid mass flow is low, the impulse kind of one or two stages supersonic turbine is employed.

Evaluation of a pulsed quasi-steady MPD thruster and associated subsystems [PDF]

open access: yes
The performance of quasi-steady magnetoplasmadynamic (MPD) thrusters at high power levels is discussed. An axisymmetric configuration is used for the MPD thruster, with various cathode and anode sizes, over a wide range of experimental conditions. Thrust

High-Power Impulse Magnetron Sputter Deposition of Ag on Self-Assembled Au Nanoparticle Arrays at Low-Temperature Dewetting Conditions [PDF]

open access: yesACS Applied Materials & Interfaces
Plasmons have facilitated diverse analytical applications due to the boosting signal detectability by hot spots. In practical applications, it is crucial to fabricate straightforward, large-scale, and reproducible plasmonic substrates. Dewetting treatment, via applying direct thermal annealing of metal films, has been used as a straightforward method ...

Enzymatic degradation of biopolymers in amorphous and molten states: mechanisms and applications

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This review explains how polymer morphology and thermal state shape enzymatic degradation pathways, comparing amorphous and molten biopolymer structures. By integrating structure–reactivity principles with insights from thermodynamics and enzyme engineering, it highlights mechanisms that enable efficient polymer breakdown.
