High-resistance grounding fault location in double-terminal DC distribution network

2021 IEEE International Conference on Artificial Intelligence and Computer Applications (ICAICA), 2021
In order to locate faults in the double-terminal DC distribution network, the DC circuit breaker and bidirectional thyristor are used to obtain the boundary capacitor voltage recording, and the equivalent time constant is extracted through the capacitor voltage recording of different fault distances.

Method to detect line-to-ground faults in high-resistance-ground networks

2010 IEEE Energy Conversion Congress and Exposition, 2010
An Industrial-Power-Converter-System (IPCS) is a system made up of several power converters, such as Adjustable Speed Drive (ASDs), filters, and any kind of reactive power-compensation components. Today, an IPCS requires the ability to accurately detect and isolate electric faults to avoid further compromise of the integrity of the whole system.

Identifying ground fault location in High Resistance Grounded systems using Adjustable Speed Drive

2011 IEEE Energy Conversion Congress and Exposition, 2011
One of the more difficult problems to solve in industrial plant is to locate and eliminate a ground fault in High Resistance Ground (HRG) system. This is because a ground fault conditions in these systems do not draw enough current to reliably trigger fault current sensors in the drive.

High-Resistance Grounding and Selective Ground Fault Protection for a Major Industrial Facility

IEEE Transactions on Industry Applications, 1984
The high-resistance grounded system offers the distinct advantage of service continuity under single ground fault conditions which is critical to many industries such as petroleum, chemical, mining, textile, cement, pulp and paper, food, glass, utility, etc.

Identifying ground-fault locations: Using adjustable speed drives in high-resistance grounded systems

IEEE Industry Applications Magazine, 2013
One of the more difficult problems to solve in industrial plants is how to identify and eliminate ground faults in a high-resistance ground (HRG) system. This is because ground-fault conditions in these systems do not draw enough current to reliably trigger fault current sensors in the drive.

High-resistance grounding fault detection and location in DC railway system

11th IET International Conference on Developments in Power Systems Protection (DPSP 2012), 2012
Locating high-resistance grounding faults poses a tough and challenging problem for the safety of DC railway systems. High-resistance grounding fault current isn't sufficient to trigger switches, which may expand the accident or turn into potential hazards.

High-Resistance Grounding of 2400-Volt Delta Systems with Ground-Fault Alarm and Traceable Signal to Fault

IEEE Transactions on Industry and General Applications, 1965
A method is described which has been used to reduce the difficulties encountered on several old delta-ungrounded systems. Data are included which will help in applying this to any particular power system. The scheme gives an alarm whenever a ground fault occurs, permits everything to keep running even more assuredly than with an ungrounded system, and ...

A random matrix based high-resistance grounding fault detection method using PMU measurements

2016 IEEE PES Innovative Smart Grid Technologies Conference Europe (ISGT-Europe), 2016
Ground fault through transition resistance is common in power systems highly impacting the correct action of protection. To improve the reliability of power systems, a random matrix based method is used in this paper as a backup protection to detect the high-resistance grounding fault, on the basis of successive PMU voltage measurements.

Faulted phase location identification for adjustable speed drives in high resistance grounding system

2017 IEEE Energy Conversion Congress and Exposition (ECCE), 2017
High-resistance grounding (HRG) is preferred in many industrial applications where continual operation during ground fault conditions is critical. However, there are some drawbacks for the traditional HRG detection methods to locate a ground fault in adjustable speed drive systems. The existing methods cannot detect or identify which phase faulted once

Flux Linkage Detection Based Ground Fault Identification and System Diagnosis in High-Resistance Grounding Systems

IEEE Transactions on Industry Applications, 2017
High-resistance grounding (HRG) is preferred in many industrial applications where the operation continuity is critical under ground fault conditions, such as pulp, paper, oil refining, chemical, glass, and metal industries. This is due to: 1) continuity of service; 2) minimized productivity impact with the scheduled system downtime; and 3) improved ...
