Reconstructing enzyme evolution by protein engineering
Natural enzyme evolution can be retraced by protein engineering methods such as directed evolution, rational design, and ancestral sequence reconstruction. These approaches reveal how enzymes emerged from ligand‐binding scaffolds, developed varying substrate preferences, formed oligomeric complexes, adapted to environmental changes, and evolved novel ...

Effect of Polarization on the O2(g), Au/YSZ Electrode System
The oxygen electrode reaction at the interface gold/yttria stabilized zirconia (YSZ) was investigated at moderate temperatures of 500 and 600°C under ambient air condition, with emphasis put on the comparative analysis for effect of anodic and cathodic ...

Thermal inactivation of Byssochlamys nivea in pineapple nectar combined with preliminary high pressure treatments [PDF]
Byssochlamys nivea is a thermal resistant filamentous fungi and potential micotoxin producer. Recent studies have verified the presence of ascospores of such microorganism in samples of pineapple nectars.

Enhanced levels of cold shock proteins in Listeria monocytogenes LO28 upon exposure to low temperature and high hydrostatic pressure [PDF]
Listeria monocytogenes is a psychrotrophic food-borne pathogen that is problematic for the food industry because of its ubiquitous distribution in nature and its ability to grow at low temperatures and in the presence of high salt concentrations.

Peripheral lysosomes recruit PLEKHG3 to focal adhesions and restrain protrusion dynamics
Proximity‐dependent labeling at the LAMTOR complex revealed the Rho GEF PLEKHG3 as a lysosome‐proximal protein directing the study toward the influence of lysosome positioning on actin dynamics and cell motility. We show that PLEKHG3 colocalizes with lysosomes at focal adhesion sites and observe that forced peripheral dispersion of lysosomes hinders ...

High-Pressure High-Temperature Structural Properties of Urea [PDF]
Angle-dispersive X-ray diffraction and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy have been employed to study the phase diagram of urea crystal beyond 15 GPa and at temperatures in excess of 400 K. Previously reported Bridgman phase II was structurally characterized for the first time, and it is discovered that it coincides with room-temperature phase IV.
