Efficiency improvement by application of horizontal magnetic fields for second- and fundamental harmonic EC wall conditioning in JT-60U

open access: yesNuclear Materials and Energy, 2017
By application of a horizontal magnetic field, BH, with 0.3% against a toroidal magnetic field, BT, electron cyclotron wall conditioning (ECWC) plasmas produced by 2nd-harmonic X-mode (X2-mode) EC waves expand radially toward the inner wall, which is to ...

Improved formulations for higher order absorbingboundary conditions

open access: yesElectronics Letters, 1997
New formulations for higher order ABCs are introduced. Third and fourth order ABCs are reduced to first and second order derivatives with each one having one additional integral term. Considerable reductions in computer storage and computational time are achieved.

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Literation Skill to Improve Higher-Order Thinking Skills in Elementary School Students

open access: yesAl-Bidayah: Jurnal Pendidikan Dasar Islam, 2020
Higher-order thinking skill is closely related to literacy skills. However, data from PIRLS 2011 states that the reading ability of elementary school students in Indonesia is relatively low because it is ranked 42 out of 45 countries. Data from PISA 2018,

Diversity and complexity in neural organoids

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Neural organoid research aims to expand genetic diversity on one side and increase tissue complexity on the other. Chimeroids integrate multiple donor genomes within single organoids. Self‐organising multi‐identity organoids, exogenous cell seeding, or enforced assembly of region‐specific organoids contribute to tissue complexity.

Parallel olfactory processing in the honey bee brain: odor learning and generalization under selective lesion of a projection neuron tract

open access: yesFrontiers in Integrative Neuroscience, 2016
The function of parallel neural processing is a fundamental problem in Neuroscience, as it is found across sensory modalities and evolutionary lineages, from insects to humans.

Epigenetic blind spots – the role of DNA methylation dynamics in stem cell‐based models of embryogenesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Embryo‐like structures (stembryos) are an innovative tool, but they are hindered by experimental variability and limited developmental potential. DNA methylation is crucial for mammalian development, but its status in stembryo models is poorly characterized.

The spatiotemporal dynamics of conditioned behavior: first-order and higher-order conditioning [PDF]

open access: yes
Pavlovian conditioning procedures generate spatially and temporally distinct behaviors. For example, after rats have received pairings of a lever with food, they approach the food well during the lever (called goal-tracking) and interact with it (called ...
