Effects of the Fluid Replacement Method During Online Hemodiafiltration on the Solute Removal Performance and Biocompatibility Using the Asymmetric Cellulose Triacetate Membrane

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction Pre‐dilution online hemodiafiltration (Pre‐HDF) is predominantly used in Japan, whereas post‐dilution online HDF (Post‐HDF) is more common in Europe. An asymmetric cellulose triacetate (ATA) membrane may improve biocompatibility.

A Phenomenological Expression for Deuteron Electromagnetic Form Factors Based on Perturbative QCD Predictions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
For deuteron electromagnetic form factors, perturbative QCD(pQCD) predicts that $G^{+}_{00}$ becomes the dominate helicity amplitude and that $G^{+}_{+0}$ and $G^{+}_{+-}$ are suppressed by factors $\Lambda_{\rm QCD}/Q$ and $\Lambda_{\rm QCD}^2/Q^2$ at ...

Reciprocal control of viral infection and phosphoinositide dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Phosphoinositides, although scarce, regulate key cellular processes, including membrane dynamics and signaling. Viruses exploit these lipids to support their entry, replication, assembly, and egress. The central role of phosphoinositides in infection highlights phosphoinositide metabolism as a promising antiviral target.

Monte Carlo studies of the jet activity in Higgs + 2 jet events [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Tree-level studies have shown in the past that kinematical correlations between the two jets in Higgs+2-jet events are direct probes of the Higgs couplings, e.g. of their CP nature.

Geodesic finite elements of higher order [PDF]

open access: yesIMA Journal of Numerical Analysis, 2015
We generalize geodesic finite elements to obtain spaces of higher approximation order. Our approach uses a Riemannian center of mass with a signed measure. We prove well-definedness of this new center of mass under suitable conditions. As a side product we can define geodesic finite elements for non-simplex reference elements such as cubes and prisms ...

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

Best theory diagrams for multilayered structures via shell finite elements

open access: yesAdvanced Modeling and Simulation in Engineering Sciences, 2019
Composite structures are convenient structural solutions for many engineering fields, but their design is challenging and may lead to oversizing due to the significant amount of uncertainties concerning the current modeling capabilities.

Higher-order adaptive finite-element methods for Kohn-Sham density functional theory

open access: yes, 2013
We present an efficient computational approach to perform real-space electronic structure calculations using an adaptive higher-order finite-element discretization of Kohn-Sham density-functional theory (DFT).
