Syngas to Higher Alcohols Using Cu-Based Catalyst – A Simulation Approach

open access: yesChemical Engineering Transactions, 2015
Higher alcohols production from syngas through chemical route has gained attention over the last decade because of characteristics such as: short-time reaction, abundant and lower price feedstocks, the use of lignin (a biomass component that is hardly ...

Current Status and Challenges in Data Collection for Aerospace Coatings Deposited by Plasma Spraying

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
An innovative approach has been integrated into the GRENAT project to optimize plasma spraying and coating performance. Raw materials are accelerated and melted in the plasma generated by torches, creating coatings. Monitoring sensors collect process data which are combined with ex situ characterization data.

HOM2 Deletion by CRISPR-Cas9 in Saccharomyces cerevisiae for Decreasing Higher Alcohols in Whiskey

open access: yesFermentation
In typical whiskey, the content of higher alcohols is about 1500–2000 mg/L, leading to a high intoxicating degree (ID). To produce low-ID whiskey, Saccharomyces cerevisiae XF0-h, XF0-H and XF0-LH were successfully constructed by CRISPR-Cas9 gene editing ...

Synthesis of higher alcohols from syngas with a heterogeneous catalyst

open access: yes, 2023
As the demand for more air traffic increases in the coming years, it is necessary to manufacture sustainable aviation fuel. One method is to do so by turning syngas, which is made from biomass, into higher alcohols.

Cathodic Cage Plasma Deposition of Nanostructured Cu–Fe–Se Coatings on Poly(methyl Methacrylate)

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Nanostructured Cu–Fe–Se coatings are deposited on PMMA by a modified cathodic cage plasma process, enabling low‐temperature deposition on polymer substrates. A transition from discontinuous to compact morphology is observed with temperature, with optimal properties at 200°C, where improved CuFeSe2‐type bonding, lowest sheet resistance, and favorable ...

The Preparation of Unsaturated Higher Alcohol

open access: yesJournal of Japan Oil Chemists' Society, 1964
A number of preparation methods of unsaturated higher alcohol have been reported, but the production of unsaturated higher alcohol on an industrial scale by these methods has not been susceeded in Japan. In this report, the authors report the results of a new method using the combined catalyst Cu-Cr-O and cadmium soap.

Influence of Surface Finish on the Tribological Performance of AlTiBN Coatings Deposited on Forming Tools

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Aluminum and nitride coatings are used in industry because they are hard, resist wear, and protect against oxidation. Adding boron can improve friction behavior and other properties. This study tests coatings on surfaces with different finishes. Results show smoother surfaces perform better, while rough ones wear faster, although coatings can reduce ...
