From HBV to MASLD Cirrhosis: Mechanistic Insights and Therapeutic Strategies

open access: yesPortal Hypertension &Cirrhosis, EarlyView.
This review examines the epidemiological shift from hepatitis B virus (HBV) to metabolic dysfunction‐associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) as the leading cause of cirrhosis globally. It highlights the distinct pathogenic mechanisms between HBV and MASLD cirrhosis and discusses evolving diagnostic tools and therapeutic strategies tailored to the ...

Strategies for Assessing Post‐Wildfire Geomorphic Resilience in Semiarid Rivers

open access: yesRiver Research and Applications, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT We review and summarize diverse components of a catchment that can be monitored after wildfire to assess the geomorphic resilience of the river corridor in semiarid regions. We distinguish upland portions of river catchments from river corridors.

Soil and microbial responses to wild ungulate trampling depend more on ecosystem type than trampling severity

open access: yesFunctional Ecology, EarlyView.
Read the free Plain Language Summary for this article on the Journal blog. Abstract Physical trampling is a ubiquitous activity of walking vertebrates, but is poorly understood as a mechanism impacting biogeochemical cycling in soil. Lack of detailed knowledge of soil abiotic–biotic interactions underlying trampling effects, and the primary sources of ...

Contrasting properties of predation and scavenging networks governed by megaherbivores in an African savannah

open access: yesJournal of Animal Ecology, EarlyView.
For the first time, predation and scavenging networks are directly compared within a single ecosystem. Using an 8‐year dataset of African mammals, including megaherbivores, this study reveals distinct structural rules and body mass constraints, providing a scalable framework for studying consumer–resource dynamics and ecosystem function.

Sensory Biology of the Franciscana (Pontoporia blainvillei, Pontoporiidae, Cetartiodactyla): Ontogenetic Modifications of Vibrissae and Vibrissal Crypts

open access: yesIntegrative Zoology, EarlyView.
The transition of cetaceans from a terrestrial to an aquatic environment involved a crucial sensory adaptation to environments with limited visibility. Vibrissae, important mechanoreceptors, undergo an ontogenetic transformation in odontocetes. This research describes the histomorphology of vibrissae and crypts at different developmental stages ...

DIVERSIFICATION OF HIPPO SIGNALING COMPONENTS IN SELECTED METAZOAN SPECIES [PDF]

open access: yes
La via di segnalazione intracellulare conosciuta come Hippo pathway svolge un ruolo chiave nei processi che regolano il controllo della dimensione degli organi, la proliferazione, l’apoptosi, il mantenimento delle caratteristiche di staminalità cellulare.
