Food-Derived Uremic Toxins in Chronic Kidney Disease [PDF]

open access: yesToxins, 2023
Patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) have a higher cardiovascular risk compared to the average population, and this is partially due to the plasma accumulation of solutes known as uremic toxins.

Hippurate hydrolysis by Campylobacter fetus [PDF]

open access: bronzeJournal of Clinical Microbiology, 1980
An additional method for differentiating between Campylobacter fetus subsp. jejuni and C. fetus subsp. intestinalis is reported. Strains of C. fetus subsp. jejuni (18/20) were shown to hydrolyze hippurate in the 2-h rapid test, whereas strains of C. fetus subsp. intestinalis did not.

Colorimetric Method for Hippuric Acid

open access: yesClinical Chemistry, 1963
Abstract Hippuric acid dissolved in pyridine producesa red-orange color upon the addition of benzenesulfonyl chloride. The color has a stable absorbance at 380 mµ. It is sensitive in microgram quantities of hippuric acid and follows the Beer-Lambert Law over a wide range of concentrations. The mechanism of the color reaction is described.

Hippuric acid in urine: reference values [PDF]

open access: yesRevista de Saúde Pública, 2002
OBJECTIVE: To establish reference values for hippuric acid (HA) excreted in the urine, and to evaluate the impact of age, gender, alcohol, and tobacco, on these levels in a population nonexposed to toluene. METHODS: Reference values for hippuric acid in urine were determined in 115 toluene nonexposed healthy volunteers, from Alfenas city, Southeastern ...

Hippurate hydrolysis by Legionella pneumophila [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Microbiology, 1981
Strains of Legionella pneumophila were shown to hydrolyze sodium hippurate in an overnight test system, but strains of L. bozemanii, L. micdadei, L. dumoffii, and some other organisms similar to the legionellae did not. Although only a small number of strains of legionellae other than L. pneumophila have been classified and tested, the results indicate

Endogenous Formation of Hippuric Acid.

open access: yesExperimental Biology and Medicine, 1955
Summary1. Humans and rats receiving a purified laboratory diet excrete hippuric acid, 1 to 3 mg/kg/day. This amount appears to be formed endogenously and its excretion in the rat is not affected by fasting, by inclusion of sulfasuxidine in the diet, or by injection of phenylalanine. 2. 0.05% of the radioactivity of 3-C14-L-phenylalanine injected into a

Substituted hippurates and hippurate analogs as substrates and inhibitors of peptidylglycine α-hydroxylating monooxygenase (PHM) [PDF]

open access: yesBioorganic & Medicinal Chemistry, 2008
Peptidyl alpha-hydroxylating monooxygenase (PHM) functions in vivo towards the biosynthesis of alpha-amidated peptide hormones in mammals and insects. PHM is a potential target for the development of inhibitors as drugs for the treatment of human disease and as insecticides for the management of insect pests.
