The history and evolution of HLA typing external proficiency testing schemes in UK NEQAS for H&I

open access: yesFrontiers in Genetics, 2023
The UK National External Quality Assessment Service (NEQAS) provide an external proficiency testing (EPT) service for clinical laboratories. UK NEQAS for Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics (H&I) has been providing EPT schemes for over 45 years and

Histocompatibility testing in patients with carcinoma of the bladder [PDF]

open access: yesCancer, 1983
A number of disease states have been found to have a positive association with certain HLA antigens. Weak associations have been described for a number of cancers. Seventy patients with transitional cell carcinoma of the bladder underwent serotyping for HLA, A, B, C, and DR antigens. There were 54 men and 16 women patients with a mean age of 65.3 years.

O‐GlcNAcylated TAP1 Impairs Antigen Presentation and Promotes Immune Evasion in Bladder Cancer

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This article unveils a critical mechanism of immune evasion in bladder cancer, which the O‐GlcNAc modification of TAP1 disrupts antigen presentation. This modification triggers HLA‐A degradation, shielding tumor cells from CD8+ T cell attack. The findings highlight targeting this pathway as a promising therapeutic avenue to sensitize tumors to ...

Combination Testing Using a Single MSH5 Variant alongside HLA Haplotypes Improves the Sensitivity of Predicting Coeliac Disease Risk in the Polish Population. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2015
Assessment of non-HLA variants alongside standard HLA testing was previously shown to improve the identification of potential coeliac disease (CD) patients.

Generation of CCR4/CD7 Bispecific CAR‐T Cells Resistant to Fratricide and Exhaustion

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The applications of CAR T‐cell therapy in T‐cell malignancies face limitations such as fratricide, effector‐cell exhaustion, and antigen‐escape. Herein, we developed fratricide‐ and exhaustion‐resistant CAR‐T cells that targeted CCR4 and CD7 simultaneously, with optional EGFRt safety switch. Additionally, scRNA‐seq unveiled new molecular targets, which

CD11b+CD43hiLy6Clo splenocyte‐derived macrophages exacerbate liver fibrosis via spleen–liver axis

open access: yesHepatology, EarlyView., 2022
A population of splenic monocytes migrate into the liver and shift to macrophages, which account for the exacerbation of liver fibrosis. Abstract Background and Aims Monocyte‐derived macrophages (MoMFs), a dominant population of hepatic macrophages under inflammation, play a crucial role in liver fibrosis progression.

Cell Squeeze: driving more effective CD8 T-cell activation through cytosolic antigen delivery

open access: yesImmuno-Oncology and Technology, 2022
Cell Squeeze is a novel technology that relies on temporarily disrupting the cell membrane to deliver cargo directly into the cytosol. This approach is applicable to a broad range of cell types (peripheral blood mononuclear cells, red blood cells ...
