Structural Characterization of Histone H2A Variants [PDF]
protein to form chromatin, the fundamental unit of which is the nucleosome core particle (NCP). An NCP consists of two copies each of the four core histones H2A, H2B, H3, and H4. This histone octamer binds 147 base pairs of DNA around its outer surface in 1.65 tight superhelical turns (Fig. 1A) (Luger et al. 1997; Richmond and Davey 2003).

Survivin and Aurora Kinase A control cell fate decisions during mitosis
Aurora A interacts with survivin during mitosis and regulates its centromeric role. Loss of Aurora A activity mislocalises survivin, the CPC and BubR1, leading to disruption of the spindle checkpoint and triggering premature mitotic exit, which we refer to as ‘mitotic slippage’.

Histone chaperone ASF1 mediates H3.3-H4 deposition in Arabidopsis
Histone chaperones and chromatin remodelers control nucleosome dynamics. Here the authors show that the Arabidopsis ASF1 chaperone primarily supplies histone variants to the HIRA complex to ensure proper epigenetic gene regulation.

Genetic markers associated with field PRRSV-induced abortion rates [PDF]
In gilts and sows, the more severe clinical manifestation of PRRSV occurs in late gestation and can result in up to 40% of abortion incidence. Despite the known genetic component in the resilience to PRRSV, there is scarce information regarding the ...

Liquid biopsy epigenetics: establishing a molecular profile based on cell‐free DNA
Cell‐free DNA (cfDNA) fragments in plasma from cancer patients carry epigenetic signatures reflecting their cells of origin. These epigenetic features include DNA methylation, nucleosome modifications, and variations in fragmentation. This review describes the biological properties of each feature and explores optimal strategies for harnessing cfDNA ...

The importance of detailed epigenomic profiling of different cell types within organs. [PDF]
The human body consists of hundreds of kinds of cells specified from a single genome overlaid with cell type-specific epigenetic information. Comprehensively profiling the body's distinct epigenetic landscapes will allow researchers to verify cell types ...

Histone variants: dynamic punctuation in transcription [PDF]
Eukaryotic gene regulation involves a balance between packaging of the genome into nucleosomes and enabling access to regulatory proteins and RNA polymerase. Nucleosomes are integral components of gene regulation that restrict access to both regulatory sequences and the underlying template. Whereas canonical histones package the newly replicated genome,

HDAC4 is degraded by the E3 ligase FBXW7. In colorectal cancer, FBXW7 mutations prevent HDAC4 degradation, leading to oxaliplatin resistance. Forced degradation of HDAC4 using a PROTAC compound restores drug sensitivity by resetting the super‐enhancer landscape, reprogramming the epigenetic state of FBXW7‐mutated cells to resemble oxaliplatin ...

The noncoding region of the genome plays a key role in regulating gene expression, and mutations within these regions are capable of altering it. Researchers have identified multiple functional noncoding mutations associated with increased cancer risk in the genome of breast cancer patients.
