Calibration under Uncertainty Using Bayesian Emulation and History Matching: Methods and Illustration on a Building Energy Model

open access: yesEnergies
Energy models require accurate calibration to deliver reliable predictions. This study offers statistical guidance for a systematic treatment of uncertainty before and during model calibration.

Harmony search optimization applied to reservoir engineering assisted history matching

open access: yesPetroleum Exploration and Development, 2020
Based on the analysis of characteristics and advantages of HSO (harmony search optimization) algorithm, HSO was used in reservoir engineering assisted history matching of Kareem reservoir in Amal field in the Gulf of Suez, Egypt.

Circular RNA expression landscapes in myelodysplastic neoplasms: Associations with mutational signatures and disease progression

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
In this explorative study, the abundance of circular RNA molecules in bone marrow stem cells was found to be elevated in patients with high‐risk myelodysplastic neoplasms, and to be associated with an increased risk of progression to acute myeloid leukemia.

New insights into history matching via sequential Monte Carlo

open access: yes, 2017
The aim of the history matching method is to locate non-implausible regions of the parameter space of complex deterministic or stochastic models by matching model outputs with data.

Subtype‐specific enhancer RNAs define transcriptional regulators and prognosis in breast cancers

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study employed machine learning methodologies to perform the subtype‐specific classification of RNA‐seq data sets, which are mapped on enhancers from TCGA‐derived breast cancer patients. Their integration with gene expression (referred to as ProxCReAM eRNAs) and chromatin accessibility profiles has the potential to identify lineage‐specific and ...

Efficiency in Matching Markets with Regional Caps: The Case of the Japan Residency Matching Program [PDF]

open access: yes
In an attempt to increase the placement of medical residents to rural hospitals, the Japanese government recently introduced "regional caps" which restrict the total number of residents matched within each region of the country.

An adaptive evolutionary algorithm for history-matching

open access: yes, 2013
Efficient history matching of highly uncertain reservoir models is important in many applications of the reservoir engineering area, such as reservoir management, production prediction, and development optimisation.

Understanding Tight Naturally Fractured Carbonate Reservoir Architecture for Subsurface Gas Storage

open access: yesApplied Sciences
This study develops a conceptual framework for characterizing reservoir architecture in multi-component, discrete systems using pressure transient analysis (PTA), aimed at calibrating inflow geometry prior to full-field dynamic simulation for subsurface ...

A pragmatic investigation of the objective function for subsurface data assimilation problem

open access: yesOperations Research Perspectives, 2020
One of the main mechanisms of an optimization problem is the effectiveness and relevance of the objective function. In the context of an optimization problem in the subsurface domain, called seismic history matching, this study proposes to investigate ...

Network divergence analysis identifies adaptive gene modules and two orthogonal vulnerability axes in pancreatic cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Tumors contain diverse cellular states whose behavior is shaped by context‐dependent gene coordination. By comparing gene–gene relationships across biological contexts, we identify adaptive transcriptional modules that reorganize into distinct vulnerability axes.
