DNA damage focus analysis in blood samples of minipigs reveals acute partial body irradiation. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2014
Radiation accidents frequently involve acute high dose partial body irradiation leading to victims with radiation sickness and cutaneous radiation syndrome that implements radiation-induced cell death.

A Gamma Ray Burst with a 220 Microsecond Rise Time and a Sharp Spectral Cutoff [PDF]

open access: yes, 1998
The Gamma Ray Burst GRB920229 has four extreme and unprecedented properties; a rise in brightness with an e-folding time scale of $220 \pm 30 \mu s$, a fall in brightness with an e-folding time scale of $400 \pm 100 \mu s$, a large change in spectral ...

Identification of serum protein biomarkers for pre‐cancerous lesions associated with pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This work identified serum proteins associated with pancreatic epithelial neoplasms (PanINs) and early‐stage PDAC. Proteomics screens assessed genetically engineered mice with abundant PanINs, KPC mice (Lox‐STOP‐Lox‐KrasG12D/+ Lox‐STOP‐Lox‐Trp53R172H/+ Pdx1‐Cre) before PDAC development and also early‐stage PDAC patients (n = 31), compared to benign ...

Olive Pomace Oil as a Chainsaw Lubricant: First Results of Tests on Performance and Safety Aspects

open access: yesLubricants, 2023
The total loss lubrication system that is typical of chainsaws is responsible for a massive dispersion in the agro-forestry environment of highly impactful pollutants, mostly of fossil origin, often well known as carcinogenic substances, which, in ...

A fast new catadioptric design for fiber-fed spectrographs

open access: yes, 2012
The next generation of massively multiplexed multi-object spectrographs (DESpec, SUMIRE, BigBOSS, 4MOST, HECTOR) demand fast, efficient and affordable spectrographs, with higher resolutions (R = 3000-5000) than current designs. Beam-size is a (relatively)

Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 increases metastatic potential and aggressiveness in colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aldehyde dehydrogenase 1A1 (ALDH1A1) is a cancer stem cell marker in several malignancies. We established a novel epithelial cell line from rectal adenocarcinoma with unique overexpression of this enzyme. Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 led to increased invasive capacity and metastatic potential, the inhibition of proliferation activity, and ultimately ...

The activities of the lower circuit of the urban economy and the factors of Attraction and Dispersion of Downtown and Newton Pereira Gonçalves of the city of União dos Palmares / AL / As atividades do circuito inferior da economia urbana e os fatores de atração e dispersão do centro e no bairro Newton Pereira Gonçalves da cidade de União dos Palmares/AL

open access: yesDiversitas Journal, 2017
In the period in which technical systems present themselves as protagonists of the space organization process, the activity of the lower circuit of the urban economy is presented as an important element to understand the relationship of the urban ...

Neutrino Splitting and Density-Dependent Dispersion Relations [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
We show that particles can split only when their group velocity exceeds their phase velocity. In this sense the splitting process is the quantum analog of the modulational instability in anomalous dispersive media.

Targeted modulation of IGFL2‐AS1 reveals its translational potential in cervical adenocarcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Cervical adenocarcinoma patients face worse outcomes than squamous cell carcinoma counterparts despite similar treatment. The identification of IGFL2‐AS1's differential expression provides a molecular basis for distinguishing these histotypes, paving the way for personalized therapies and improved survival in vulnerable populations globally.

Network divergence analysis identifies adaptive gene modules and two orthogonal vulnerability axes in pancreatic cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Tumors contain diverse cellular states whose behavior is shaped by context‐dependent gene coordination. By comparing gene–gene relationships across biological contexts, we identify adaptive transcriptional modules that reorganize into distinct vulnerability axes.
