Symmetry classes of alternating sign matrices in the nineteen-vertex model

open access: yes, 2016
The nineteen-vertex model on a periodic lattice with an anti-diagonal twist is investigated. Its inhomogeneous transfer matrix is shown to have a simple eigenvalue, with the corresponding eigenstate displaying intriguing combinatorial features.

Common genetic polymorphisms of microRNA biogenesis pathway genes and breast cancer survival

open access: yesBMC Cancer, 2012
Background Although the role of microRNA’s (miRNA’s) biogenesis pathway genes in cancer development and progression has been well established, the association between genetic variants of this pathway genes and breast cancer survival is still unknown ...

Hardware Impairments in Large-scale MISO Systems: Energy Efficiency, Estimation, and Capacity Limits [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
The use of large-scale antenna arrays has the potential to bring substantial improvements in energy efficiency and/or spectral efficiency to future wireless systems, due to the greatly improved spatial beamforming resolution.

HIWI is associated with prognosis in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma after curative resection [PDF]

open access: yesCancer, 2011
AbstractBACKGROUND:PIWI protein family was found to play an important role in stem cell self‐renewal. Overexpression of HIWI, the human homolog of PIWI family proteins, was found in several solid tumors, although the role of HIWI in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and its prognostic value remain unclear.METHODS:HIWI expression was measured in stepwise ...

Silencing HIWI suppresses the growth, invasion and migration of glioma cells

open access: yesInternational Journal of Oncology, 2014
The HIWI gene is one of the members of the PIWI gene family that is important for stem cell self‑renewal and expressed highly in certain human tumors. Some studies have demonstrated that HIWI plays a key role in the development of tumors in cervical, colon and liver cancer.

Divergent estimation error in portfolio optimization and in linear regression

open access: yes, 2007
The problem of estimation error in portfolio optimization is discussed, in the limit where the portfolio size N and the sample size T go to infinity such that their ratio is fixed. The estimation error strongly depends on the ratio N/T and diverges for a

Reactivity of a NiO/Al2O3 oxygen carrier prepared by impregnation for chemical-looping combustion [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Available online April 8,2010The reactivity of a Ni-based oxygen carried prepared by hot incipient wetness impregnation (HIWI) on -Al2O3 with a NiO content of wt% was studied in this work.

PIWIL1 suppresses circadian rhythms through GSK3β‐induced phosphorylation and degradation of CLOCK and BMAL1 in cancer cells

open access: yesJournal of Cellular and Molecular Medicine, Volume 23, Issue 7, Page 4689-4698, July 2019., 2019
Abstract Circadian rhythms are maintained by series of circadian clock proteins, and post‐translation modifications of clock proteins significantly contribute to regulating circadian clock. However, the underlying upstream mechanism of circadian genes that are responsible for circadian rhythms in cancer cells remains unknown.

Overexpression of Argonaute HIWI Gene in Colorectal Cancer Stem Cells and Colorectal Cancerous Tissue [PDF]

open access: yes, 2022
Abstract Background: Recent studies have shown that Hiwi has a crucial role in stem cell self-renewal in various organisms and it is also associated with some cancers. In the present study, Hiwi expression was examined in different grades of primary human colorectal cancer (CRC), colorectal cancer stem cells (CRCSCs) and HT-29 CRC cell line ...
