As in the previous Workshops, HLA-B27 appears to be one of the best defined antigens. Four sera are very good or excellent (Table 1) as, indicated by their quality scores based on the formula of Mickey and Terasaki. The few extra reactions of the above-mentioned sera are cross-reactions, mostly with B7.

Microbial antigens mediate HLA-B27 diseases via TLRs
Journal of Autoimmunity, 2009HLA-B27 positive individuals are predisposed to reactive arthritis developing 1-3 weeks after urogenital and gastrointestinal infections. Also ankylosing spondylitis (AS) associates strongly to HLA-B27, but no specific infection, Klebsiella pneumoniae excluded, has been linked to it.

Association of HLA-B27 Antigen with Retroperitoneal Fibrosis
Journal of Urology, 1978This is the second known case of retroperitoneal fibrosis in a middle-aged black man whose tissue type was HLA-B27 positive. The HLA-B27 antigen is present in only 4 per cent of black American male subjects and may be important in the diagnosis and management of patients with primary retroperitoneal fibrosis.

Typing of serum‐soluble HLA‐B27 antigen by ELISA
Tissue Antigens, 1993Abstract: An ELISA using serum as soluble HLA antigen source was developed for HLA‐B27 typing. Two sandwich assays were run in parallel. The first assay utilized a monoclonal antibody (mAb) reacting with a determinant expressed by both HLA‐B7 and B27 antigens; the other assay utilized a mAb reactive with HLA‐B7 antigens but not with HLA‐B27 antigens ...

Biochemical Features of HLA-B27 and Antigen Processing
2009The strong association of the human MHC class I allele HLA-B27 with the development of the chronic inflammatory disease ankylosing spondylitis (AS) is clear and has been known for over three decades. Despite this, it is far from clear how HLA-B27 is directly involved in AS.

HLA-B27 antigen in women with ankylosing spondylitis.
JAMA, 1976Twenty-three (85.2%) of 27 female patients with ankylosing spondylitis were positive for HLA-B27 antigen, including 15 of 18 white women (83.3%) and eight of nine black women (88.9%). Ankylosing spondylitis in women appears to have the same high association with HLA-B27 antigen as that reported in predominantly male studies (88% to 96%).

[HLA-B27 antigen and alkaptonuria].
Revue du rhumatisme et des maladies osteo-articulaires, 1977Study of urinary homogentisic acid and a determinantion of group HLA were carried out for 36 members of a family spread over three generations with three cases of ochronotic rheumatism in the second generation. Alkaptonuria was discovered in seven other subjects, six of them members of the third generation: urinary elimination was poor, less than 0.60 ...

[Non-granulomatous anterior uveitis and HLA-B27 antigen].
Nippon Ganka Gakkai zasshi, 1989In Caucasians, there is close correlation between acute anterior uveitis and histocompatibility antigen HLA-B27. But in Japanese, this is not clear. Therefore, we examined 58 patients with non-granulomatous anterior uveitis (NGAU) about HLA typing in our uveitis clinic at Tokyo Women's Medical College Hospital.

Novel HY peptide antigens presented by HLA-B27.
The Journal of Immunology, 1997Abstract We have identified two peptides corresponding to the male-specific HY minor histocompatibility Ags presented by HLA-B27 in transgenic rodents, isolated from whole cell extracts and from immunoprecipitated B27 molecules of male B27 rat spleen cells.
