Antigen presenting cells and HLA-G – a review
Placenta, 2005Maternal antigen presenting cells, which are macrophages and dendritic cells, are scattered throughout human decidualized endometrium during all stages of pregnancy. These powerful, multi-functional leukocytes reside in close proximity to uterine glandular epithelium, uterine blood vessels, and HLA-G-producing invasive cytotrophoblast cells ...

Modulation of HLA-G antigens expression in myelomonocytic cells
Human Immunology, 2000As trophoblast cells and macrophages share cellular characteristics, we investigated the expression of HLA-G antigens during the myelomonocytic differentiation. Analyses with the 87G and 16G1 monoclonal antibodies demonstrated that HLA-G was not expressed in peripheral blood monocytes, in in vitro differentiated dendritic cells and macrophages, and in ...

Molecular Pathways: Human Leukocyte Antigen G (HLA-G)
Clinical Cancer Research, 2013AbstractHuman leukocyte antigen G (HLA-G) is a nonclassical MHC class I molecule that exerts important tolerogenic functions. Its main physiologic expression occurs in the placenta, where it participates in the maternal tolerance toward the fetus. HLA-G expression was found in embryonic tissues, in adult immune privileged organs, and in cells of the ...

Is antigen presentation the primary function of HLA-G?
Microbes and Infection, 2001Human histocompatibility leukocyte antigen (HLA)-G is an antigen-presenting molecule. This review discusses the possibility that this might not be its primary function. HLA-G indeed modulates innate immunity by interacting with immunoglobulin-like receptors and by regulating HLA-E expression and its subsequent interaction with CD94/NKG2 receptors.
