Comparing Monte Carlo Models of Impact Alteration of Planetary Atmospheres

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Planets, Volume 131, Issue 8, August 2026.
Abstract One process that affects atmospheric surface pressure is impact bombardment. The evolution of a planet's atmosphere under impact bombardment is an open question. We use a Monte Carlo method to evolve a range (0.006–92.5 bar) of initial atmospheres at Mars, Earth, and Venus under bombardment of 5×106 $5\times 1{0}^{6}$ impactors using seven ...

Revision of the Elusive Harvestmen Genus Discocyrtulus Roewer, 1927 (Opiliones: Laniatores: Gonyleptidae): Investigating the Presumed Northeastern Brazilian Discocyrtus‐Like Relatives

open access: yesAustral Entomology, Volume 65, Issue 3, August 2026.
ABSTRACT A maximum parsimony analysis based on morphological characters (23 taxa; 98 characters; 1951 scorings) was conducted to test the monophyly of Discocyrtulus Roewer, 1927, and to assess its phylogenetic relationships within Gonyleptidae. The results recover the species currently assigned to Discocyrtulus as phylogenetically distant from ...

Examining the efficacy of a sanctuary to protect sharks in the Galapagos Marine Reserve

open access: yesConservation Science and Practice, Volume 8, Issue 8, August 2026.
Abstract In 2016, Ecuador established a no‐take marine sanctuary in the northern portion of the Galapagos Marine Reserve (GMR), ostensibly to protect sharks. Arguably because of this, experimental longlining was permitted in the rest of the reserve as part of a compensation package to local fishers. Considering this agreement and very low bycatch rates

First Attempt to Estimate a Joint Distribution for Income and Wealth Within the Distributional National Accounts Framework

open access: yesReview of Income and Wealth, Volume 72, Issue 3, August 2026.
ABSTRACT Over recent years, there have been several projects to include distributional aspects in the national accounts' framework. Household distributional information will also be covered in the 2025 SNA. Additionally, increasing emphasis has been placed on covering all material aspects of welfare at the macro as well as micro level in the same macro

LiDAR-HMR: 3D Human Mesh Recovery From LiDAR

open access: yesIEEE Transactions on Multimedia
In recent years, point cloud perception tasks have been garnering increasing attention. This paper presents the first attempt to estimate 3D human body mesh from sparse LiDAR point clouds. We found that the major challenge in estimating human pose and mesh from point clouds lies in the sparsity, noise, and incompletion of LiDAR point clouds.
