Optically switched volume holographic elements

Optics Letters, 1995
We optically switched the diffraction efficiency of volume holographic elements recorded in DMP-128 photopolymer by use of a thermal nonlinearity of the liquid crystal 5CB. The liquid crystal was incorporated into the volume grating. The diffraction efficiency of small areas of the grating was switched with a control beam power of several milliwatts ...

Wavelength performance of holographic optical elements

Applied Optics, 1985
A comprehensive treatment is presented for the diffraction efficiencies of transmission holographic elements and cascade lenses when subject to broad spectral and field angle detunings. Experimental measurements are made in support of our theory on holographic optical elements fabricated in bleached silver-halide emulsions and in dichromated gelatin ...

Design for polarizing holographic optical elements

Applied Optics, 1995
We present results of the application of a three-dimensional rigorous-vector coupled-wave theory to the design of polarizing holographic optical elements. Two different cases have been selected giving rise to two types of element, one of which is completely original. Experimental realizations were performed.

Partitioned Holographic Optical Elements

Optical Engineering, 1982
A new type of holographic optical element is demonstrated which combines some of the flexibility of computer generated holograms with the large space-bandwidth product and high diffraction efficiency of interferometrically recorded volume phase holograms.

Innovative 3D/2D Augmented Reality System Based on a Liquid-Crystalline Microlens Array and Full-Color Holographic Optical Element

IEEE Journal of Selected Topics in Quantum Electronics
We present a novel augmented reality (AR) display system utilizing a holographic optical element (HOE)-based approach, featuring seamless switching between three-dimensional (3D) and two-dimensional (2D) modes through a liquid-crystalline microlens array

See-through display combined with holographic display and Maxwellian display using switchable holographic optical element based on liquid lens

open access: yesOptics Express, 2018
We report a switchable holographic optical element based on a liquid lens for a see-through display. For the switchable holographic optical element, we recorded two optical components in the holographic film in two steps.

Design of compact augmented reality near-eye display using freeform holographic optical element

SPIE/COS Photonics Asia
With the development of display technology, augmented reality (AR) devices have a wide range of application scenarios in many fields. The optical performance, volume and cost of the device are the main factors restricting the development of AR technology.

Advances in holographic optical elements

SPIE Proceedings, 1990
Recent advances in the design and recording of holographic optical elements are illustrated by means of two representative examples - focussing lens and multiple beam grating. The focussing lens design method is based on an analytic ray-tracing procedure that yields an analytic solution for the diffractive grating function.
