Large‐scale bidirectional arrayed genetic screens identify OXR1 and EMC4 as modifiers of αSynuclein aggregation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Activation of the mitochondrial protein OXR1 increases pSyn129 αSynuclein aggregation by lowering ATP levels and altering mitochondrial membrane potential, particularly in response to MSA‐derived fibrils. In contrast, ablation of the ER protein EMC4 enhances autophagic flux and lysosomal clearance, broadly reducing α‐synuclein aggregates.

Understanding Price Variation Across Stores and Supermarket Chains: Some Implications for CPI Aggregation Methods [PDF]

open access: yes
The empirical literature on price indices consistently finds that aggregation methods have a considerable impact, particularly when scanner data are used.

A One-Sample Test for Normality with Kernel Methods [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
We propose a new one-sample test for normality in a Reproducing Kernel Hilbert Space (RKHS). Namely, we test the null-hypothesis of belonging to a given family of Gaussian distributions.

Effect of a preliminary test of homogeneity of stratum-specific odds ratios on their confidence intervals

open access: yes, 2012
Consider a case-control study in which the aim is to assess the effect of a factor on disease occurrence. We suppose that this factor is dichotomous. Also suppose that the data consists of two strata, each stratum summarized by a two-by-two table.

Earthquake modelling at the country level using aggregated spatio-temporal point processes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
The goal of this paper is to derive a hazard map for earthquake occurrences in Pakistan from a catalogue that contains spatial coordinates of shallow earthquakes of magnitude 4.5 or larger aggregated over calendar years.

Weighing temporal fluctuations of drought features in Rwanda through the implementation of the standardized precipitation evapotranspiration index and standardized precipitation index

open access: yesEnvironmental Research Communications
Climate change poses significant challenges globally, affecting weather patterns and leading to more frequent and severe extreme events such as droughts.

Cyclic azapeptide CD36 ligand attenuates cardiac injury and reduces long‐chain fatty acid accumulation after myocardial ischemia–reperfusion in mice

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
In a murine model of myocardial ischemia and reperfusion (MI/R), the CD36 azapeptide ligand MPE‐298 reduces cardiac injury and transiently lowers left ventricular long‐chain fatty acids (LCFAs) accumulation 3 h after reperfusion, accompanied by a decrease of oxidative stress and inflammation‐associated genes' expression in the heart and adipose tissue.

Aquaporin‐3 and aquaporin‐5 impact the development of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma spheroids

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Schematic representation of the role of aquaporin‐3 (AQP3) and aquaporin‐5 (AQP5) in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC). Both proteins are upregulated in PDAC and are associated with tumor progression and metastatic potential. Silencing AQP3 or AQP5 in PDAC spheroids results in decreased diameter, area, and overall growth, underscoring their key ...
