Homologous and heterologous desensitization mediated by vasopressin in smooth muscle cells

Cellular Signalling, 1989
Prolonged exposure of A-10 cells to Arginine Vasopressin (AVP) resulted in the following responses: (a) loss of vasopressin receptors from the cell surface (30-40%), (b) increased basal levels of inositol and inositol monophosphate, (c) decreased inositol di- and trisphosphate production and decreased intracellular calcium release in response to a ...

Homologous Desensitization of Cultured Chick Kidney Cells to Parathyroid Hormone*

Endocrinology, 1983
The development of refractoriness of the cAMP response to PTH in primary cultures of chick kidney cells and recovery from the refractory state was investigated. When cells were preincubated with bovine PTH1-34, complete refractoriness to a subsequent challenge with the hormone developed within 2 h and at hormone concentrations as low as 5 ng/ml.

Homologous desensitization of the beta-adrenergic receptor. Functional integrity of the desensitized receptor from mammalian lung.

Molecular Pharmacology, 1985
Previous work has demonstrated that injection of rats with isoproterenol is rapidly (10 min) followed by the development of a homologous form of desensitization of the beta-agonist-coupled adenylate cyclase in lung membranes. Half the receptor pool becomes sequestered in a light membrane fraction while the other half remains in the plasma membranes but

Reduced Activity of the NPR-A Kinase Triggers Dephosphorylation and Homologous Desensitization of the Receptor

Biochemistry, 2001
NPR-A, the receptor for the atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP), is a 130-kDa protein presenting an extracellular ANP-binding domain, a single transmembrane domain, an intracellular regulatory kinase homology domain (KHD), and a guanylyl cyclase catalytic domain.

Homologous and Heterologous Acute Desensitization of Vasopressin V1a Receptor in Xenopus Oocytes

Cellular Signalling, 1998
The mechanism of short-term desensitisation of the V1a vasopressin receptor, a phospholipase-C beta linked receptor, was investigated in albino Xenopus oocytes. V1a receptors showed rapid agonist-dependent mobilisation of intracellular calcium, as detected by aequorin photon emission.

Homologous and heterologous desensitization and synergy in pathways leading to the soybean oxidative burst

Planta, 2000
Because the H2O2 and O2- generated during a pathogen-triggered oxidative burst could either protect or destroy a besieged plant cell, their synthesis might be expected to be tightly regulated. We have examined the nature of this regulation as it is communicated between homologous and heterologous oxidative-burst pathways, using both chemical ...

In vivo and in vitro homologous desensitization of rat glomerular bradykinin B2 receptors

European Journal of Pharmacology, 1995
We investigated the effects of bradykinin on glomerular bradykinin B2 receptor functions and parameters in vivo, after intrarenal infusion of bradykinin, and in vitro, after incubation of isolated rat glomeruli with bradykinin. Bradykinin transiently increased renal plasma flow whereas a second challenge was ineffective. Scatchard analysis demonstrated

FSH-Responsive Adenylyl Cyclase in Rat Testes: Desensitization by Homologous Hormone

Archives of Andrology, 1980
Injection of high doses of FSH causes a partial desensitization of the FSH-responsive adenylyl cyclase (AC) in adult rat testes. The loss of responsiveness to FSH is dependent on time. Two hours after injection of one dose of human FSH (256 micrograms hFSH-PT2) in vivo, no effect was seen on FSH-stimulated AC activity (Km and maximal activation). After

Homologous vs. heterologous desensitization of the adenylate cyclase system in heart cells

European Journal of Pharmacology, 1988
Exposure of cultured heart muscle cells to noradrenaline led to a decrease in the effects of isoproterenol and prostaglandin E1 on cAMP formation and contraction velocity. However, heterologous desensitization, as measured by prostaglandin E1 stimulation, only occurred at higher noradrenaline concentrations than homologous desensitization ...

Down-Regulation of Prostaglandin E Receptors and Homologous Desensitization of Isolated Adipocytes

Endocrinology, 1983
Adipocytes are known to contain prostaglandin E (PGE) binding sites and PGE is known to be antilipolytic. These studies were performed to ascertain whether PGE binding sites in isolated adipocytes can be down-regulated and whether down-regulation (DR) decreases the sensitivity of the fat cell to the antilipolytic effects of PGE2, adenosine, and insulin.
